I follow his instructions, heading up the stairs to her supposed room. Through the cracks in her door, soft whimpers make their way to my ears.
Shoot.
"Amira? Can I come in?" I tap my knuckles against her wooden door, trying not to startle her too much.
"N-no...*sniff* just, just leave. Please..." her muffled words are separated by small sniffles or hiccups.
"Ami, I just want to help you. Can we talk? I think you need it." I patiently lean against the wall, waiting for a response. Instead I'm left with silence.
I wait around for a good three minutes, hoping she'll eventually open up. I sigh when I realise it's no use, departing my friend's home.
-Camilo's pov-
A shout from not too far behind me catches my attention. It's Erika.
I whip my head around in hopes of finding out what the commotion I'd about, but my view is blocked by other townsfolk/students.
'Hey Amira, do you know why I can hear Erika screaming?' I figure she'll have a good idea of the situation. They're close after all.
'Not sure. Wait, did you say Erika's screaming?'
'Yeah, oh well. Mind if I come over to your place? I'm really not in the mood to deal with a screeching teenage girl,' I chuckle jokingly, already making my way to her place despite the fact I hadn't been given approval yet. I pretty much just assume it'll be okay, she's trying to apologise to me after all, the least she could do is that.
'Uh, please don't, I'm busy right now,' speed and distress filling her voice.
Usually I wouldn't have minded, but like I've mentioned, I haven't really had the opportunity to hang out with her for the past week. And now that I could, I wasn't just going to let her off like that .
'You definitely aren't. I'm still coming over Ami, I want to see you.'
'Hold on, just, uh, give me half an hour. Or so...'
'No Amira, I want to see you. Get that in your thick skull.'
'Camilo, please just wait.'
'I've already waited. You aren't busy, there's absolutely no reason I've got to delay any longer.'
'It's only half an hour, you've spent years hanging out with me I'm sure you can take a tiny break,' her tone grows slightly sour, but noticeable enough for me to sense somethings wrong. And it's not because I'm being stubborn.
I don't say another word to her as I began racing towards her house, determined to uncover what's happening.
I slide her window open vertically, climbing in before even checking out what's inside.
She's curled up on the floor, her back leaning against the bed frame while she buries her face into her knees.
Her soft sobs are all I can hear.
I reach a swift, obvious explanation as to why she's crying.
This has to be about Erika.
I keep my mouth shut, keeping a steady pace in my steps as I make my way over to her.
'I've got you.'
It's all I can really say, I don't know the full story behind the sudden events, and I know she won't want to talk.
Talking is always the last thing she wants to do when she's the one crying, physical comfort is all she requires.
And I'm going to give it to her.
I comfortably settle myself down beside her, carefully wrapping an arm over her shoulder.
I know it's selfish, but there's that one, minuscule part of me that can't help but be proud of myself...
That's right, Andres.
I'm here with her.
Where are you?
Hah.
Funny, isn't it?
How, I'm in love with her.
How, I go out of my way to make sure she's the happiest version of herself, the version who won't back down, who has confidence.
And how you've known her for two weeks, but have decided she's all yours?
No.
...
I can wait.
(Ten minute timeskip)
Amira adjusts her position, so she's leaning back onto my chest.
"I'm so sorry Camilo, I'm supposed to be apologising to you but instead you're here comforting me, and-"
"Shh," I cut her off, 'I don't mind. By the way, I'm going back to calling you Princesa, I miss it.'
She hesitantly nods, easing back more rather than her recently stiff form. Her head now resting cosily in my lap.
"I know you still feel bad about it," I soothingly brush my fingers through her delicate hair, "But I do enjoy consoling you, it brings us closer, doesn't it. Try to look on the positive side of things. Can you do that?" I grin affectionately through my whispered words, only showing my absolute affinity with her.
"Yeah, I think so," she smiles up at me, her half-lidded eyes glistening under the layer of tears. "I, will never understand you."
"You already do," I can barely hear my own utterance, whispering only targeting for the two of us to hear.
Even if she didn't hear it.
She knows I'm thinking it.
"Also, I apologise for trying to pair you with Erika all the time even though you clearly didn't show any intentions of being with her. Just another thing I had to get off my chest."
"Mhm," my attention distracted by the silky texture of her shiny hair.
"Did you even hear me?" She giggles.
"Mhmmm~" I hum, a sheepish grin creeping up on my lips as I continue admiring her brown tresses sprawled over my lap. She only laughs at my ignorance, and her voice only adds to the list of things I get easily distracted by.
"Don't worry, I did," I add on, snickering along with her.
"Speaking of her, I think I'm going to stand up to Abuela."
"How so?"
"I'm breaking up with Erika, I don't want this to get so out of hand to the point where I can't escape."
Amira grins, she reaches her hand up to play with one of my curls, stretching it out before it bounces back into place.
'I'm proud of you Camilo.'
