Medical Oneshots

Shruti- Part 2- Infection

Go through the first chapter of this book. This incident takes place 1-2 weeks after that oneshot. They are in continuation.

This oneshot is out of imagination. This may not happen in real life. Take it as just a story.

Ankit

I was busy doing paperwork at my office when the nurse came to handover Shruti's reports to me. I had taken some blood tests to find out what was going wrong with her.

Actually Shruti had been running high grade fever once in ever 3-4 days. After getting the fever reducer injection it goes down but returns again after 3-4 days. This had been going on for roughly 2 weeks now. Yesterday only she had very high fever. So after giving her another fever reducer injection, I collected some blood also to get it tested.

I unwrap the envelope to check the reports. It was happening because of bacterial infection. This is really serious if goes untreated. She will need a course of antibiotic injections and oral medicines to get it treated. I write down the prescription quickly and gave it to the nurse to pack all the supplies.

I completed my work in the meanwhile when the nurse had packed all the stuff mentioned in the prescription. Taking it I head towards home. Needle wise she will need a total of 4 injections to be given once daily. She was very reluctant to take the injection yesterday but I managed to convince her somehow. I just hope she agrees to take these happily.

Time skip- At home

"No way I am going to take any more Injections I already had enough. Give me tablets" Shruti reacted as soon as I told her about the treatment.

As I thought, Shruti will not accept it readily. I have to be patient with her.

"Listen to me Shruti, I would not have told you to take these if it wasn't necessary. I don't want to you keep suffering. The infection you have can be treated only by injection. Please try to understand."

"I can't take anymore injections. I am already sick of it." She said keeping her head down as if she wants to drop the conversation right now.

I know she was tired of all these. I can't blame her for refusing it. I never wanted to force her. So I just gave up for the time being giving her some time to think upon it.

The Next Day

It's Sunday today so I had planned to take her for shopping, movie, lunch and whatever she wants to do. I thought she will agree to me if she feels good by having an outing.

I woke up and prepare breakfast for us then go her room to check on her. I enter the room to see Shruti on the bed waking up just now as i made some noise while entering.

"Sorry I woke up late, I am not able to get up what time is it.?" Shruti asked confused. She is not looking fine. I touch her forehead and neck. She is warm. Again fever thankfully not too high but it will if not treated immediately. I help her to get up.

"Go freshen up quickly. I will bring you something to eat. And then you can take paracetamol. Your fever should go down by it."- "Not an injection again please"

"Your temperature isn't very high right now so tablets should work now. I am not giving you an injection." - "Thanks"

She went to freshen up and I brought her breakfast and medicines to her room. I asked her to take rest when she was done.
I went to check some reports after that.

Shruti

An hour had passed by Ankit left me to take rest. I was feeling much better now. I take out the thermometer which I keep in the side table of my bed as I use it very frequently now a days to check my temperature. It was normal.
