JUST KEEP GOING

"Taichou! You're always so mean to me...dumping all the paperwork on me...." Rangiku pouted at her young, hot headed captain. "Matsumoto! Don't make me repeat myself! You got into trouble because you held a drinking party and both the 7th squad and 8th squad sent us all their paperwork! So stop complaining and get to work!" Rangiku rewarded her captain with a usual annoyed pout. But just like always, Hitsugaya taichou seemed unaffected but her trials to cut some slack.

Sighing, she understood there was no way out of this. Her taichou wasn't in a good mood and he obviously wouldn't help her this time. She really had made a mess calling out a full blown drinking party, hadn't she? After all, Aizen had been defeated and peace restored to Soul Society and the human world. It called for a celebration! Besides the shinigami of the other squads agreed too! Why did she get the blame alone?

Because.....it was her suggestion, right....

The thought of Aizen being defeated was a happy occasion, but that's not what came to her mind when she remembered those fearful battles against the Arrancar and the captains who turned traitors to Soul Society. It was one person who came to her mind....one person whom until he died, she couldn't understand at all.

Ichimaru Gin.

I can take the rain on the roof of this empty house,

That don't bother me.

I take a few tears now and then and just let 'em out.

Shaking her head from unnecessary thoughts that flooded her mind, she looked back at all the paperwork in front of her. There was much to be done and if she thought about Gin, it was usually never ending memories of the time they spent together as comrades. And thinking about that wouldn't get her paperwork done.

Flipping page after page, the paperwork didn't seem to end. It was already late in the night, the moon shining brightly in the dark sky and Rangiku yawned. Stretching her arms above her head, she gave her body a much needed stretch before getting back to work. She stopped though, staring at one of the pages for longer than necessary. Reading the details over and over that seemed to make her mind go blank. Blank momentarily, but flood with so many memories that she yearned to see again for real.

I'm not afraid to cry every once in a while.

Even though going on with you gone still upsets me.

There are days every now and again I pretend I'm okay,

But that is not what gets me.

A drop fell from her eyes, landing with a silent plop on the paper in front of her. The paper absorbed the transparent liquid, blurring the words written there on the sheet. She clenched her jaw tightly, refusing to let anyone hear her voice as she remembered her friend. Her first friend and the only one she trusted during her days in Rukongai....who everyone knew now as nothing more that a traitor.

But she knew better. She knew much better than anyone what Gin truly was. She would be wrong if she said she knew everything about him. She didn't. She didn't know any of his secrets and she knew that many of his words and actions always confused her. His sarcasm always left her lost. But one thing she knew was that he hadn't betrayed her. He may have betrayed Soul Society. He might have betrayed the captains. But he never betrayed her.

The very rare times she got to see his eyes clearly....she always saw that gentleness that no one else could. He was strong, fearful, a dark vibe always seeming to come off him when he walked by and frightening all the other shinigami around him. But not to her.
