The Lies We Hide

The world passes by and we live our lives

We love the people we love

We pursue the dreams we want

We watch our lives fly through our eyes

We compare ourselves to others we meet

We cross paths with others and we wish and wish

For our lives to be different and

For our lives to be like others

But I wonder how many secrets we hide,

The lies we put up for display

Into other people's eyes?

The masks we wear and which we take off

Hiding behind our fears

I wonder how many lies I have said

The number of sins I have committed

To be more like others

Painting a picture for myself,

Or rather for others to see

A beautiful painting which I admired

And yet reality was so much different.

We put our masks in front of others

And capture only the beautiful memories

Those beautiful pictures not for ourselves

But for others to see

We fool ourselves and imagine our lives

Living in a perfectly painted fantasy.

So different from the pictures we post

So different from how we live and act

Our true thoughts hiding in our minds

Thoughts which we are too scared to express

I wonder how many lies we put out,

How many secrets we hide,

The stories we want to erase from our lives.

The more and more I watch the world

The more and more I realise,

We only know half the story

Half of which are lies.
