CJ: "I wanna tell you one story, uh... This- This was... the BEST meal I've ever had in my life, alright? This happened when I was 19 years old in Chicago, Illinois where I grew up. And it took place at a little uh... restaurant called The Salt and Pepper Diner, which was a family restaurant in the city! It's a wonderful family restaurant in- in Chicago, which means that it caters mainly to teenagers and homeless schizophrenics. Now I go into this place one day uh- when I'm 19 with my best friend and girlfriend Angel and Vade! We walk into The Salt and Pepper Diner one day, and they had a jukebox there! Alright? And the jukebox was 3 plays for a dollar. So we put in 7 dollars... and selected 21 plays of Tom Jones's What's New Pussycat."
[Laughter]
CJ: "And then we ordered and waited. Here's the thing about when What's New Pussycat plays, over and over and over and over and over again. The 2nd time it plays your immediate thought is not,"
Ruby's POV: "Hey someone's playing What's New Pussycat again!"
CJ: "It's,"
Olley's POV: "Hey, What's New Pussycat is a lot ✨l o n g e r✨ then I first thought. And it has like a dip in the middle..."
CJ: "Y'know how some songs have a dip? Like- like- Guns and Roses, November Rain? You're like,"
Flower: "Hey! November Rain's over!"
CJ: "No it's not."
[Laughter]
CJ: There's more."
CJ: "The 3rd time it plays you're thinking,"
Kami's POV: "Maybe someone's playing What's New Pussycat again."
CJ: "The 4th time it plays you're thinking,"
Kami's POV: "WOAH. SOMEONE JUST PLAYED WHAT'S NEW PUSSYCAT 4 TIMES. OR AT LEAST SOMEONE PLAYED IT TWICE AND IT'S A REALLY ✨L O N G✨ SONG."
CJ: "So... The 5th time is the kicker! Now we're watching the ENTIRE diner at this point. Most people have gotten wind as to what's going on. And we're all staring at this one guy and he's sitting in his booth, and his like hand is shaking while his stupid 'kids' jump around. And like he's been on to it since the beginning. And he's staring at his coffee cup like this."
[Very intense staring]
CJ: "And he has this look on his face, like 'Oh...' like he JUST got his 30-day chip from anger management. And he's sitting like this... [Intense- shaking?] And the 4th play fades out. It's dead quiet. And then... I dunno if you know this... but the song begins... very suddenly..."
[WAH WAH! WHAT'S NEW PUSSYCAT?!]
CJ: "And the guy goes,"
Tricky: "GOD DAMN IT!"
CJ: "And pounds on the table and silverware flies everywhere! And it was FAANTASTIC!"
[Laughter]
CJ: "But a word about my friend Angel, and what a genius they were! Because... When we were first up at the jukebox, and we were punching in the What's New Pussycats, right?"
[Laughter]
CJ: "I punched in about 7. And then Angel says to me,"
Angel: "Hey, hey, hey wait... Before we drop in another What's New Pussycat... Let's put in one 'It's Not Unusual'..!"
[Laughter]
CJ: "AND THAT IS WHEN THE AFTERNOON WENT FROM GOOD TO GREAT! After 7 What's New Pussycats... IN A ROW. Suddenly..."
[Dum da dum dum da dum dunununu... It's not unusual!~]
CJ: "And the sigh of relief has swept through the diner... PEOPLE WERE ECSTATIC. It was like the liberation of France. Y'know, for years scientists have wondered 'Can you make grown men and woman weep tears of joy by playing Tom Jones's It's Not Unusual?' And the answer is... yes. You can. As long as it is preceded by 7 What's New Pussycats."
CJ: "And on the other hand... When we went back. Holy shit."
[Laughter]
CJ: "It's Not Unusual fades out..."
[Laughter]
CJ: "It's dead quiet..."
[WAH WAH! WHAT'S NEW PUSSYCAT?!]
CJ: "People went fucking insane."
[Laughter]
CJ: "No one could handle it! No one could handle it! And they were surrounded by this like seemingly indifferent staff, you know? That was just like:"
Nova: "Yep. Same shit as always."
CJ: "My only wish is that one of the schizophrenics has stood up and been like:"
Henry lmfao: "Now you know. Now you know what it's like to live in my brain."
CJ: "They 'unplugged' the jukebox after 11 plays."
Vade, CJ & Angel: "And that was the best meal we've ever had!"
