[20 - Suspicions]

Start from the beginning

Sure, he was very, very suspicious. But I had no proof.

I continued to look at him, and I noticed a glint
in eyes. I couldn't quite put my finger on what it was exactly. But it looked murderous.

——

A few hours later, Annabeth went back to sleep (despite her telling me she wasn't tired) and Barry and Joe were about to leave for CCPD. Cisco, Dr. Wells, and Caitlin went out for lunch together (they invited me, but I politely declined.) So I was here.

I was currently watching over Annabeth, not in a creepy way, but like, you know what I mean. And well, when I thought Joe and Barry were long gone, I heard their voices come closer to the Cortex.

What is it with me overhearing people lately?

I couldn't help but eavesdrop into their conversation from my spot.

"I don't get what you're saying, Joe," Barry exasperated.

"I'm not saying anything, Barry. I'm just trying to warn you to look out for Dr. Wells!"

"Why should I?"

"Because he- I don know, he just doesn't seem right."

"You're just being paranoid, alright? I just gotta go to work. Captain Singh is already watching my every move after being late for the past week." And with that, Barry rushes away.

I began to think. Joe also finds Wells suspicious, should I ask him about it? He's the only lead so far. But if I show myself, he'll know I just eavesdropped their conversation. But then again, if I don't do anything, I won't get any answers.

Come on, Percy.

I step out of the Cortex and see that Joe is almost out the door (there is no door but you get what I mean). From afar, I could hear him say, "That damn kid and his stubbornness."

I couldn't help but burst out a laugh at that. And of course, that gave away my position. Oh, well. I guess that's one way to do it.

He stops in his tracks and looks back at me, startled at my appearance. "Were you there the entire time?" He pointed at the med bay and I just nodded.

"Uh, yeah. I also heard your conversation and I'm not gonna put this lightly, so yeah, I heard your entire conversation with Barry."

The man sighed and rubbed his forehead. "You think I'm crazy too?"

"No, no! I don't, I actually believe you. I think that you have a point."

"Seriously?" He raises his eyebrows at me, and I nod my head enthusiastically.

"Yeah, could you, uh, explain why you think you find him suspicious?"

"Oh, well. Ever since we met, I always thought he wasn't who he said he was. It was always the small details, you know? Well, anyways, Barry got struck by lightning, that was how he got his abilities. The doctors didn't know how to help him. Except, one day, Dr. Wells appeared and said he could help him! Of course, I thought it was bogus. But somehow, he actually saved Barry."

"Really? That's weird."

"Exactly! And before you came, Barry encountered one of his former, how would you say this. . . protégé. And well, he had a grudge against Dr. Wells and Team Flash. He was attacked in his home, but as soon as the police a arrived, he brushed everything and everyone off, claiming "it was just a prank." But I wasn't stupid enough to believe that. And when Cisco and Caitlin arrived at his house, they said they had never been to his place before, which I find odd since they're close friends."

"Wow." And that's all I said because Joe was spilling out all this useful information and I wouldn't dare say anything that might get this conversation to get off track.

"And he's in a wheelchair, right? Well, there was not a scratch was on him, and believe me when I say his house has a lot of glass and windows. So when they shattered, he had no way to shield himself or get to a safe spot fast enough from the glass."

"He didn't appear injured?"

"Nope, not even a little scratch." At that, he looked at his watch and frowned. "Sorry to cut this short, but I'm going to be late for work. I can tell you other stuff I got later."

And he walks away.

I pondered more about that but I didn't know what I was supposed to do now. Even if I wanted to confront Wells, I had no idea where he was eating or when he would even come back.

I looked back at Annabeth, who, surprisingly, was sleeping like a rock. Who knew Annabeth could sleep for this long?

I sighed and looked around the room. My eyes stopped at the mannequin that held my blue suit. With nothing else to do, the best thing would be for me to go on patrol. But no offense to Cisco, but putting on the suit can be really tiresome.

So to save time, instead of wearing the whole suit, I grabbed the mask and shoved it in my back pocket. I just told myself that I'm going on a calming, revitalizing walk. And if I do happen to encounter, let's say, a robbery, all I gotta do is whip out my mask and bam, all ready to go kick some metahuman ass (or possibly a monster. Let's hope it's not the latter).

I give Annabeth a kiss on the forehead before running out of S.TA.R. Labs. I had no idea where I was going to walk to, but today was such a nice day, I decided I needed some fresh air after all that brain-using. I don't understand how Annabeth does it all the time.

I stroll down the sidewalk, and I'm barely thirty minutes into my walk before I someone shouting for help at the next block over.

I groan, that was definitely a fault on my end. I jinxed it before it even happened.

I run over to the scene at record speed and I digest everything around me, which wasn't much. An elderly lady with a yellow dress was collapsed on the ground, scared out of her mind.

I looked past her, and noticed a man holding a purse, presumably the lady's, and running away.

Grinning, I begin to run towards them.

It's go time, baby.
