Chapter Two: Falling Won’t Bring Us Down.

*Christina’s POV*

          “Get… Off… of… Me… n-NOW!” I yelled trying to breathe.

Selena and Erin both jumped off and looked down at me, laughing. I put my hands out so that they could help me up.

“You really think the both of us can pick you up…?” Selena suddenly became serious.

I kicked her shin. “You freaking jerk…”

They both started laughing, again. Erin helped me up, effortlessly as Selena apologized. She wiped a tear from her eye and hugged me. I hugged her back.

“So, what the hell are we supposed to be doing today…? Volley ball? Or soccer like last week?”

“I think we’re started dodge ball, today.” Erin smiled grimly.

Oh great… Dodge ball, really? Why is it that Coach Kimberly makes us play every single thing that I absolutely hate? Ever since freshman year she has been so hard on me… It pisses me off.

“Dude, you guys better not try to hit me with a damn ball if we’re on opposite teams…” Selena said through clenched teeth.

Erin and I looked at each other and back at Selena.

“Sure, whatever you say, Sel. Whatever you say…” Erin smiled.

“I MEAN IT DAMMIT! IF I SEE EITHER OF YOU ATTEMPT TO HIT ME WITH THAT GOD AWFUL BALL… YOU’LL GET IT!” Selena seemed serious… I mean, why wouldn’t she be? She’s so worried about breaking a nail that she doesn’t even see how much fun anything can be. I usually don’t like stupid preppy ‘I don’t want to break a nail’ kind of girls, but there was something about Selena that made her totally different yet so the same. I didn’t care though. When she approached me in eighth grade she was so nice and non-judgmental.  Sure she was wearing the color pink and had an annoying high pitched voice, but hey, why judge a book by its cover?

All the kids started piling into the Gym by now and along with them, came Coach Kim. As soon as she came through those huge, rusty doors, she looked at me… Oh God, why!?

“LARSOOONN, FRONT AND CENTER!” Coach Kim looked like she was irritated.

I walked up to her slowly, looking down… Like I was some sort of travesty.

“Hi, Coach. What’s up?” I kept looking at the floor not wanting to look the bull in the eyes.

“Go get the bag of Dodge balls in the back room… And hurry back.” Coach started walking away.

I ran to the back room, grabbed the bag, and ran back because; when Coach Kim says ‘Hurry back’ she means hurry back. I put the bag down in the front of the room and ran to sit on the floor next to Selena. Coach Kim started splitting the kids up into two teams and of course I was on the team with all the weaklings. The first few balls were thrown and it was show time.

Only two minutes went by and 10 out of 15 kids on my team were already sitting on the side… I mean c’mon! I saw Selena pick up a ball for the first time during this whole game… and to my surprise she has a good arm, but when she aimed at me she missed.

“Good arm, Sel! Too bad you don’t have good aim to balance it out! HA!” I yelled.

“Dammit, Christy… SHUT UP. I haven’t played this game since freshman year!” She yelled back.
