You tuned back in as the old wizard, whose name you now know to be Dumbledore, pulled out an old looking hat. The hat began to sing and you didn't know what to do.

"Oh, you may not think I'm pretty,
But don't judge on what you see,
I'll eat myself if you can find
A smarter hat than me.
You can keep your bowlers black,
Your top hats sleek and tall,
For I'm the Hogwarts Sorting Hat
And I can cap them all.
There's nothing hidden in your head
The Sorting Hat can't see,
So try me on and I will tell you
Where you ought to be.
You might belong in Gryffindor,
Where dwell the brave at heart,
Their daring, nerve, and chivalry
Set Gryffindors apart;
You might belong in Hufflepuff,
Where they are just and loyal,
Those patient Huffepuffs are true
And unafraid of toil;
Or yet in wise old Ravenclaw, if you've a ready mind,
Where those of wit and learning,
Will always find their kind;
Or perhaps in Slytherin
You'll make your real friends,
Those cunning folk use any means
To achieve their ends.
So put me on! Don't be afraid!
And don't get in a flap!
You're in safe hands (though I have none)
For I'm a Thinking Cap!"

Everyone burst into applause once the hat had finished singing. "When I call your names you will sit on this stool, I shall place the Sorting Hat on your heads and it shall tell you where you belong. Once you have been sorted you will join your respective houses the feast will begin." McGonagall explained.

"Abbott Hannah!" She called.

A pink-faced girl with blonde pigtails sat on the stool and the hall went silent.

"HUFFLEPUFF!" The hat shouted.

"Bones Susan!" The girl walked up to the stool and the hat was placed on her head

"HUFFLEPUFF!" The hat shouted once more.

"Boot Terry!"

"RAVENCLAW!"

"Brocklehurst, Mandy!"

"RAVENCLAW!"

"Brown Lavender!"

"GRYFFINDOR!"

You thought this ceremony was going to last for hours and you felt your stomach starting to hurt. You can't remember when the last time you ate was.

"Finnigan Seamus!"

"GRYFFINDOR!"

"Granger Hermione!" This one piqued your interest.

"GRYFFINDOR!" You hoped you weren't in Gryffindor.

"Weasley Ronald!"

"GRYFFINDOR!" Now you really didn't want to be in Gryffindor.

"Parkinson Pansy!"

"SLYTHERIN!" That was the first Slytherin of the night and you couldn't help but find yourself wanting to be in Slytherin with your new friend.

"Malfoy Draco!" McGonagall continued.

"SLYTHERIN!" Draco stood up with a grin on his face. As he passed you he whispered in your ear.

"Hope to see you there Y/n." And then he walked to join his table.

You were about to tune out when you heard, "Potter Harry!" and everyone erupted into whispers about the boy who lived. "Wait until they hear my name," You thought, "The girl who lived" You quietly scoffed to yourself.

She placed the had on Harry's head and you could see him talking to himself. The hat didn't answer straight away. "Hmmm," It said. "Difficult, very difficult. Plenty of courage," It continued and you rolled your eyes. "Not a bad mind either. There's talent, A my goodness, yes -- and a nice thirst to prove yourself, now that's interesting... So where shall I put you?"

Harry was whispering to himself but you couldn't quite make it out. "Not Slytherin, eh?" said the hat. "Are you sure? You could be great, you know, it's all here in your head, and Slytherin will help you on the way to greatness, no doubt about that -- no? Well, if you're sure -- better be GRYFFINDOR!" The hat shouted.

Now you definitely didn't want to be in Gryffindor. You wouldn't be able to stand your brother and his new friends.

"Potter Y/n!" McGonagall shouted and you felt your heartbeat rise.

Just as you thought everyone started to whisper about the girl who lived and you even heard a few people refer to you both as the twins who lived.

You felt your legs carry you to the front of the hall and you stared at everyone else as she placed the hat on your head. All you kept thinking was "Not with my brother. Please not with my brother."

"Not with your brother en?" The hat spoke aloud. You felt kinda bad for Harry that you didn't want to be in the same house as him and rubbed your sweaty hands into your robes. "Well, you are like him in many ways. Just as difficult to place. You have the same amount of courage. You are very smart. There's plenty of talent. But that thirst to prove yourself," The hat tutted. "You will do anything you can to prove yourself. Very cunning. It better be- SLYTHERIN!" The hat shouted.

Standing up you grinned at yourself and made your way over to the Slytherin table. You found a seat next to Pansy and Draco and sat down. You laughed while the Slytherin table all clapped. Looking over at Harry you saw him staring at you with sadness and just shrugged your shoulders.

You tuned out as McGonagall finished sorting the rest of the first years. Once she had finished Dumbledore stood from his seat and spread his arms wide.

"Let the feast, begin!" at that plates of all different foods appeared on the rows of tables around you and you got yourself a plateful.

During dinner, two redheads who were definitely twins stood from their seats and shouted while fist-bumping the air. "We got Potter! We got Potter!"

Draco stood from the seat next to you, "Shut up Weasels, you may have one Potter but we got the better of them both and you know we do." He smirked and looked down at you.

You couldn't help but smile back.

The rest of the evening went smoothly. You enjoyed your meal, and you already made a friendship group. Your small group consisted of You, Pansy, Draco, Crabbe and Goyle. Crabbe and Goyle weren't the smartest. but they were nice and funny so you didn't mind.
