Finfolk are sorcerous shapeshifters of the sea, they're a dark mysterious race. They wade, swim or sometimes row upon the shores in the spring and summer months, searching for human captives. The Finfolk kidnap unsuspecting fishermen, or frolicking youth, near the shore and force them into lifelong servitude as a spouse.

They're depicted as being tall and thin with a stern, gloomy face. Unlike the mermaids they don't have a tail but appear like a human but humans they are not.
They avoid human contact as humans are seen as dangerous and unintelligent. Because of that they're extremely territorial and will wreak havoc on the boats of any fishermen trespassing in their waters.
