Iris' mom was home when she got back. And her dad was at the hospital, as usual. The two girls ended up lounging by the pool for the rest of the day and even decided to have a few drinks.

"I'm feeling pretty tipsy, Iris. I feel as though I should head to bed for the night." Lily said as she got up and rinsed her wine glass.

"I feel the same way." Iris said with a giggle.

She realized that she totally forgot to meet the Pogues to go send Kiara and Sarah off. Shit.

Pulling out her phone, she shot John B a message.

Iris
oh shit I'm so sorry that I forgot
....mom and I got wine drunk

John B
Classic excuse Iris
You're off the hook but you better meet us in the morning

Iris
I won't forget I swear

And as she pressed send, she swore she heard a motorbike outside of the house. She was right because Rafe appeared in the doorway a few seconds later, betrayal worn on his face, tears attempting to not spill out of his eyes.

Iris rushed to the door and opened it, "What happened? Is it your arm? Are you okay?"

"My dad, uh, my dad, kicked me out, he said, he said I'm a liar and a thief and-" Rafe sniffled, scrunching up his face.

"Come inside." Iris cut him off pulling him inside straight into her arms.

Rafe rested his head on her shoulder as Iris turned to meet eyes with her mom, who gave her a nod.

"Rafe, you are more than welcome to stay here as long as you need." Lily said, giving him a soft smile.

He sniffled, "Thank you, Lily, it uh, means a lot."

He felt too welcomed here, it was a house that was functional, not dysfunctional. And that made him feel out of place in every single way.

Her mom gave the two one last glance before heading upstairs for the night. Iris continued to hold Rafe and let him take a minute to collect his thoughts.

"What happened?"

"I, uh, I'm a disappointment is all, nothing new."

"Rafe-"

"Can we just go upstairs please?"

Iris nodded, "Yeah."

Rafe solemnly followed Iris to her bedroom and she shut the door behind him.

"What happened?"

Rafe continued to pace around her room and stutter over her words slightly, "Uh, uh, my dad, uh, caught me stealing one of his watches-"

"Why were you stealing his watch?"

"God damn it, Iris, would you just let me fucking speak?" Rafe yelled loudly, making Iris' eyes widen before he noticed, immediately calming himself down, "I'm sorry, I, I didn't mean to yell."
