Chapter 19:

Depuis le début

"One more thing. Be careful, okay?" He says.

It then hits me that Yi-Kyung would be going alone. I notice her about to leave but decide to stop her.

"Wait," I say, making her stop to turn around. Eun-hyuk looks at me confused as to what I was doing.

"I'll go with you," I tell her, bending down so that I can lace up my shoes. I didn't want my shoes to come untied and then trip in the dark.

A look of panic crosses Eun-hyuk's face after I speak. "No!" He exclaims before masking his worried expression.

"You know how to work the PA system better than me... I'll need your help to work it when the power comes back on." He quickly says.

"I just think it would be better if two people went,"  I say. I could tell that Eun-hyuk wanted to say something else, but he was keeping it to himself. I could still see the look of worry in his eyes. It almost gave me a feeling as if something was going to go wrong.  I shake the thought from my head. Everything would be fine.

"I'll be back soon," I tell him, smiling softly before turning to Yi-Kyung who was waiting patiently.

"Let's go," I say, walking to stand beside her now.

Yi-Kyung leads the way to a door that said basement. She looks at me before opening the door.

"You don't have to come with me. It could be dangerous." She tells me.

"Eun-hyuk was prepared to come on his own. I think he would have mentioned if he thought it was too dangerous." I say, as I reach for the door and pull it open.

Yi-Kyung pulls out a flashlight and turns it on, lighting up the stairs that led down into the basement.

"Alright then, let's go," She says, about to lead the way when a voice stops us.

"Hey, you two shouldn't go down there." We turn, seeing that the lady with the dog was standing just behind us.

"Why?" Yi-Kyung asks, only to get a response of the small dog barking frantically.

"My dog knows about these things." The lady tells us, as she tries to calm the small ball of fur.

"We'll be careful," I say, before turning back to Yi-Kyung. She takes the first steps into the dark stairwell, and after I follow her, the door slams shut, leaving us in darkness.

With the flashlight, Yi-Kyung leads the way. I could hear the dog continue to bark on the other side of the door. I silently pray that if any monsters were nearby, that they didn't hear the barking and try to find the source of the noise.

As we get farther into the basement, I walk closer to Yi-Kyung. I didn't want to stray too far from her and get lost. We come across different pipes that lead to things around the building. One pipe was labeled fire hydrant. I remember seeing a fire Hydrant just in front of the building.

"The electrical system should be right over here," Yi-Kyung tells me as she squeezes between two large pipes. Just past the pipes, is a door.  I follow along as she pushes the door open, revealing the electrical room. There was some loose electrical wire hanging from the ceiling. They were sparking, causing the room to light up slightly.

Pointing the flashlight towards a wall of switches, Yi-Kyung reaches for one and flips it upwards. A humming noise fills the air as she then presses a red button that was next to the switch. The lights above flickered before lighting up the room around us.

"It works," I say, breathing a sigh of relief. Yi-Kyung switches off the flashlight before handing it to me.

"Here, take this." She tells me, as she continues to look around the room.

"Everything seems to be working now." She tells me. "Let's get out of here," Yi-Kyung says, as she leads the way for us to exit the room.

She holds the door open, allowing me to walk through first. As I leave the room, I turn around to wait for her, only to see something reaching out from the shadows.

The last thing I hear is Yi-Kyung screaming out as she gets dragged across the floor. Before I can process what had happened, I hear her yell. "Run!" She says. And that's exactly what I do.
