Down Goes Bramble Elliot, Six Feet Under

All too soon it's time for the burial. Everyone takes turns walking by the casket where they say their last goodbyes. I can't help but smile slightly when I see that underneath her bandaged arms and beside her, are her favourite books—The Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan, the Trylle Trilogy by Amanda Hocking, An Unfortunate Fairy Tale series by Chanda Hahn, the Harry Potter series by J. K. Rowling and a few more. Then, the workers slowly lower her casket into the ground, making the headstone visible for all to see:
Bramble Elliot
March 24th 1999-May 22nd 2015
A beloved daughter, friend and bookworm
"Bury me with books, so even after death, I can read."

After this, the cries and sobs get louder. Once the casket is in the ground, everyone goes to drop roses into the hole.
Out of the corner of my eye, I see that boy, Ryder, curled up in a ball rocking back and forth on the ground murmuring things with tears streaming down his face. After dropping my rose onto the casket, I walk over to him and sit down next to him.

"She loved you. You know that right? She wouldn't lie about it, she loved you. And thank you for being her friend, her only friend, and for helping her. Don't blame yourself for something you couldn't control or stop." I whisper.

Tilting his head up, he looks me in the eyes with his red, puffy eyes and whispers back, "I could've tried harder to stop them. I could've talked to her in person. I could've..."

"I could've been there sooner. I could've asked her if everything was okay. I could've stopped her from taking her life, but that's not what happened. It was her time to go Ryder. As much as we don't like it and I know it hurts, it was her time. And I know she wouldn't want us to be like this. We just have to cherish the moments we had with her."

"I don't want to live in a world without her."

"Neither do I. I helped raise her from the day she was born. I watched her grow up into the beautiful young lady she was. I moved here with them from London because I didn't want to lose them. They're my family. I was supposed to die first, not her."

"She really was beautiful..." More tears stream down his face.

"Ry, we have to go now." The blond girl, his sister, says while gently tugging on his arm.

"Give me a minute with Belle, please? There's something I need to tell her." He says, looking up at her. She nods with a sad look on her face before walking away. Reaching into his pocket, Ryder pulls out a folded-up piece of paper and a small heart necklace.

"I know the necklace isn't the most expensive, but when I saw it, it made me think of her. That last day, I was going to give this to her along with this note, but I couldn't find her after school and now she will never know... So, here it is. I'm sorry for your loss." he whispers before slowly getting up and walking away, leaving the paper and the necklace on the ground beside me.

I slowly pick up the necklace and examine it. It's absolutely beautiful with diamonds in the center that catch in the sunlight. Next, I open the letter and my heart melts after reading the first five words.
