Rylee's POV
Three months later
I'm not shocked at how I'm feeling when I'm at work. Overall I thought the day would be good, but lately, it's just been so exhausting. Between trying to balance my relationship with Jax, learning how to be a parent with him again, balancing the kids schedules, and keeping my mental health in check, I've been so busy.
But I think it's worth it because I've never felt better, even if I'm exhausted. But today's Kurt's birthday and he's six, six years old. I of course got called into work before he woke up this morning and Jax stayed home to help set up his party. He's similar like Maddie, he wanted a party at the house but since the weather is cooler outside he's only getting a bouncing house, not the water slide experience he wanted.
It's all race car themed though, and he wanted a race car, which I know Jax bought, and a new baseball bat, that I bought. But I'm leaving in fifteen minutes, hopefully to get home in time for his party this afternoon.
I'm not rushing, but I'm slightly speeding through my paperwork per usual, like I always do before going home. I just miss Jax so much today, and when I get home, I just want to fuck him until I can't walk. I just want to be close with my husband and forget everything I'm stressed about.
That's when horrible screams come from outside my office door. The first thing I do is run outside the door onto the unit. What I don't expect to see is Poppy Jenkins running through the emergency unit with her daughter in her arms. Her daughter who looks just like her, pale as a fucking ghost.
"Oh my goodness." I whisper rushing into the emergency bay. I immediately see her bawling her eyes out as the male nurses take her daughter, who can't be more than two, from her arms and puts her into a bed and starts her EKG and oxygen. I see two more little girls holding her hands as she stands there trying to contain her tears.
"Poppy what's wrong?!" I ask as she wipes her tears as I immediately pull her into my arms hugging her. When I look at her I see what Jax was talking about, she's put on a few pounds but honestly, she looks healthier now than she did the first time I saw her.
"Rylee?" She asks as I nod. "I'm the head nurse on the unit what's going on with her?" I ask moving over to listen to her lung noises. But she's not moving, she's not breathing.
"She stopped breathing-, she's had seizures since her second birthday but never like this. Is it something I've done?" She asks out of breath as I instantly grab my stethoscope and start listening to her lungs again.
"She's-, she was at the park playing, she-, her name is Ally, she's my baby Rylee." She tells me as I nod. "Listen we have her, I'll come and get you when she's okay. I promise you I won't leave her." I tell her trying to calm her down as the nurses take over and I page the doctor clicking the button on my side.
"Okay, go with one of the nursing assistants to the waiting room and I'll bring you back once we have her seizures under control with medication. Can you fill out some forms for me while you wait, maybe some medications she's on?" I ask as she sighs.
"She's been on medication forever. My husband, he had them growing up but it never was this bad." She tells me as I rub her back.
"Okay, I need a medical history for him too, I think that would be the best can you call him?" I ask as she starts to talk but the doors to the emergency room open as she looks back.
"That's him." She whispers wiping her tears as she moves over to hug him. And that's when it hits me what true love looks like, because I know I look at Jax the same way that she looks at her husband. He opens his arms hugging her as I look at him softly, he's tall, and blonde, and he looks a lot older than her, but he's the man she loves. He then bends down to their two little girls holding poppy's hands as they stand there together as a family.
