-Kaydan's P.O.V-
Everyone looks at me.
"H-He's not very good with people. Especially in large quantities," I state.
"Or who aren't you," Luke mutters so only I can hear.
I narrow my eyes at him before looking back to everyone else and saying, "I'll go get him. You guys pick something to watch." I stand up and hurry out of the door.
Christian is turning the keys in his ignition.
"Wait!" I yell stopping him. He rolls down his window as I approach him. "What's wrong?"
"Nothing is wrong," he mumbles glancing at his hands.
"Why are you leaving?" "These are your friends." "So?"
"I shouldn't be here."
"It takes time for people to become friends. You've already converted 'Lucas' and Simon, so the hard part is over."
"Luke only invited me out of pity and Simon just wants to fight me."
"Luke wants to get to know you, and Simon looks up to you for some...odd reason."
He pinches my nose. "Gee, thanks."
I laugh. "Just stay! Come on!...For me?"
He puts his hand on the back of my head and pulls my face down to his bringing our lips together. I feel him slide his tongue over my bottom lip before pulling back. "If I stayed I'd probably end up attacking you every chance I got. With or without your friends watching."
"W-Well-"
He brings his hand to my neck and moves the scarf down. "I really wish you didn't wear this stupid thing." He rubs his fingers over some of the marks.
I push his hand away making him smile. "Cut it out!"
"Seriously though, go have fun with your friends."
I study him. "What are you going to do?"
"Don't worry about me. Just go."
"...Okay."
He rolls up is window and backs out, then heads down the road.
I watch him until he disappears around the corner. I pull out my phone and dial his number.
"Yes?"
"I-I'll see you tonight!" I exclaim.
"I'll be waiting."
I hang up and go back inside.
Everyone's eyes are glued onto me. "...What?"
"The hell are you smiling for?" Luke asks. "I-I'm not."
"You really are," Sarah laughs.
"C-Can we just watch a movie?" I shout sitting on the couch away from everyone. My phone vibrates in my pocket.
There's a message from a group chat labeled "Kaydan's Guardians".
What the...
Kyle: We won't be back until tomorrow afternoon. Turns out we need to drive across town.
Kaleb: I tried to stop them, but they wouldn't listen to me.
Kyle: I tried to stop them too. I'd rather be home with you.
Kaleb: I tried harder. It's going to be hard to sleep without you by my side.
Kyle: That's creepy, Kaleb.
Kaleb: Jealous that he likes me more?
Kyle: He does not! He never said that!
Kaleb: Yes he did. Kaydan, tell him.
Kyle: Kaydan, that's not true is it?
I put the group on mute and stuffed my phone back into my pocket rolling my eyes.
At least I know Christian and I can sleep undisturbed...I hope Christian is alright...
-Christian's P.O.V-
I roll onto my back and check the time again. It's 11:19. At night.
Why the hell is this day still going?
I check my phone for any missed notifications from Kaydan.
Nothing.
I sigh and get back to work. I shuffle through the next few pages of my History textbook. Every page reminded me of how much I hated it. It wasn't as bad as calculus, but I still hated it. I had finished a few essays earlier when I got back. I only needed to do one more.
I can't believe I might actually go back to school. I seriously don't want to return to that hell hole.
I scratch my neck then feel my leg shake. I grab my phone and Lucas' name flashes on the screen.
"What?" I answer.
"You uh, you need to come get Kaydan," he mutters.
"What happened?"
"He's fine, don't worry. He's just...come get him. Kaydan, no! Put that down this-" he hangs up.
I get off my bed and head for my car. I make it to Lucas' house in under seven minutes. I pound on the door. "I'm here."
Lucas opens it in no time. "He's in the kitchen."
I follow him in and look around the living room. "Where is everybody?"
"The only bodies here are ours, including Kaydan. Everyone turned in earlier."
"Oh." I walk past him and into the kitchen.
Kaydan was standing in front of the fridge staring inside.
"Kaydan," I call to him.
He turns and looks me in the eye.
Something is off.
"Hey Christian!" He exclaims with a lopsided smile.
"Are you alright?"
"Why wouldn't I be? It's my birthday!"
"Your birthday was two days ago," I correct.
"I think I would know when my own birthday is," he grins.
Oh. He's drunk.
"How much did you drink?"
He shrugs. "Enough to get a party going? 4...that's a number, right? I think it is. I mean...I can count that high at least."
"He polished of my last case by himself!" Lucas yells storming in. "I told him to take one, and he took six!" He turns to Kaydan. "You know you can't handle alcohol!"
Kaydan sticks his tongue out at him.
"Why weren't you watching him?" I ask Lucas.
"Because we were suppose to be watching a movie, not each other!"
"I can't find anymore," Kaydan says aloud sticking half of his body into the fridge.
"I think you've had enough," I sigh grabbing him under the arms and pulling him out.
"What are you doing?" He protests. "Let me go!"
"We need to go home," I argue calmly putting one over my shoulder. "Thank you for calling me," I say to Lucas.
"Thank you for taking him," he answers. He walks me to the door. "Do you think you can handle him?"
I nod.
"Alright. I'm trusting you." Lucas gives one last wave before heading back inside.
I drag Kaydan to my car and place him in the passenger seat. I buckle him up and start toward our apartments. The whole ride over I have to stop him from unbuckling his seat belt and messing with the buttons on the radio.
Once we arrive he steps out and stumbles falling to the ground. "Ow."
I walk over to his side and help him up, placing his arm back over my shoulder asking, "Are you alright?"
"I can walk by myself!" He shouts after a couple of seconds.
"Do you want to?"
He stays quiet for a while. "...No."
"Then shut up and-"
"I want you to carry me," he interrupts me.
"You're walking just fine."
"Carry me!" He stops dead and plants himself on the ground.
I turn and look down at him. "What are you doing?"
He folds his arms and turns away from me.
"Seriously Kaydan, stand up."
He doesn't respond.
I stare at him hard. "We aren't even a minute away."
"Carry! Me!" He only yells louder.
I massage the bridge of my nose. "Fine."
He smiles hugely and stands up walking behind me singing, "Piggyback!"
I bend down so he can hop on my back easier. He wraps his arms around my neck and I stand up fully, grabbing onto his legs with my arms.
"Yay!" He laughs squeezing tighter and bouncing.
"Be careful," I scold beginning to walk.
"You're no fun," he groans resting his chin on my shoulder.
"No fun? Just wait till we get up stairs. You're going on a magical trip straight to bed."
"What? No fair!"
"Very fair."
"I want to have fun!"
"Tough luck. I don't have games at in my room."
He tightens his grip around my neck. "We don't need games to have fun," he finished kissing it.
"Cut it out Kaydan," I say sternly.
"No fun at all."
I finally make it and up the stairs. I unlock my door and walk inside sitting Kaydan down on the couch.
He instantly reaches out and grabs my hand. "What's wrong?"
He looks away from me.
"Kaydan?"
"Nothing," he answers squeezing my hand tighter. Soon after that he releases a small yawn.
"Are you tired?"
He nods slowly.
I lead him up the stairs and to my bed. "I need to get you a change of clothes."
"I'll come with you," he offers.
"The dresser is right there. Only a step away." "I want to go with you!"
I look at our hands then sigh. I do my best to reach over and open it, taking out a shirt and pants, then rest it beside him. I help him remove his pants to put on the p-jay's, then remove his scarf and unbutton his shirt to pull the other one over his head. "Better?"
He nods again.
It would be too much work to change myself, so I don't. I also figure that I wouldn't be able to finish my essay tonight, so I crawl onto the bed with him and slip us both underneath the sheets. "Need anything else?"
He shakes his head nestling into my chest, still holing my hand.
I kiss his forehead then mat his hair down. "Then go to sleep."
He brings my hand up to his lips and kisses it. "...Okay."
It's only quiet for a couple of seconds before Kaydan speaks up again. "Christian?"
"Hmm?"
He uses his free hand to draw lines on my chest. "I like you."
"You mean 'think' that you-"
"No. I like you," he says catching me off guard. "Like, like you like you."
"Well," I clear my throat, "I like you, like you too."
He giggles and wraps his other hand over mine as well. "Do I really have to go to slee-"
"Yes."
Because if you say anything else, I can't promise your innocents.
He huffs. "Fine. Good night." "Good night."
