Chapter 2 - Jealousy

~ Ash's POV ~
as I finished up my day teaching I let the kids just draw or color for the last couple minutes in class as I walked around and checked on them i eventually got to Ashley who was drawing, and her drawing caught my attention
"what are you drawing?" I blinked and smiled at her
"my family" she smiled still scribbling away as I smiled
"who are they exactly?" I smiled

"my dad" she pointed
"and my mum" she smiled again and pointed at the part of the drawing that caught my eye
"why is she floating . . . ?" I blinked since she drew her in the sky part of her drawing and she left her colorless
"because daddy says she's in the sky now and she's always watching over us!" she giggled smiling as I felt terrible for this little girl not knowing what death was but then again I was skeptical I have known of kids who are told their absent parent has passed away when it's not like that but I wouldn't like to jump to conclusions
"something wrong?" Ashley then blinked at me
"uh no, keep coloring sweetie" I smiled as I racked her auburn strands of hair as she smiled
"okay" she shrugged smiling and coloring away as went I to check on the other kids

Once the school day ended I sighed and was going to make my way to the bus stop until I saw a tiny figure sitting at the bench swinging their legs back and fourth as I approached I saw it was Ashley
"Ashley is your dad not here yet?" I said as I approached her
"nope" she sighed as I checked my watch and school ended an hour ago
"hm" I blinked as I just stayed with her Paul would kill me if I was late to work at the cafe but I can't just leave her here so I stayed waiting with her

After another 30 minutes a black truck pulled over and honked as Ashley and I looked over and Ashley smiled
"it's my dad!" she chimed as I smiled and watched her walk over to the car
"hey!" he smiled as she ran to hug him
"sorry I arrived late, I had some things to do at my office that made lose track of time" he sighed as I smiled
"it's okay, I'm just glad you finally came" i smiled as he smiled back

"I better go, I'm late for my other job" I smiled after a small silence
"you need a ride?" he smiled
"you don't have to, I have my bus ticket money" I smiled
"I insist, you've been putting up with our nonsense all day, it's the least I could do" he gave me a genuine smile
"okay, if you insist" I giggled as Ashley smiled and grabbed my hand
"let's go!" she smiled as I smiled back and went to the car

I sat at the passenger seat and gave Gary directions as he'd make casual conversation
"so was Ashley good or was she a handful?" he glanced at me
"she was good no worries" I smiled as he looked at his mirror and smiled since Ashley had fallen asleep
"you know she drew this interesting drawing" i said as he glanced at me again
"is that so, of what?" he said as I lightly smiled
"well it was of her family she said, and she drew her mom in the sky" I blinked as Gary gave off a worried expression
"oh . . . yeah, she draws a lot of that stuff" he said with a sigh
"I see, if you don't mind me asking, did her mom really . . . " I bit my lip hoping I wasn't crossing conversation limits
"die?" he finished my sentence as I nodded slowly with a slight frown
"yeah she did, two years ago to be exact, which left me to be a single dad" he said as I bit my lip seeing how his expression changed

"I'm sorry if I crossed any limits, I was just wondering" I shook my head
"it's okay, I mean I'm glad you worry about your students, not many teachers do that" smiled as I nodded
"yeah I guess your right" I said

"this is my job, thank you" I smiled as we got to the cafe
"how much do you get paid here?" he said blinking
"$10 an hour why?" I blinked as his eyes widened
"wow . . . that's low . . . " he said as I blinked once more
"y-you know I'm looking for a secretary, and I pay $18 an hour for that, if you're interested of course" he smiled
"but don't I have to be available in the mornings?" I said
"not exactly, you can work your shift in the afternoon, i don't mind" he smiled as I opened my mouth but he cut me off
"just think about it, no pressure at all" he smiled grabbing my hand as I blushed
"okay" I nodded with a smile
"better go then" I smiled as he let go of my hand
"go ahead" he smiled
"t-thank you" I said before leaving
"no problem" he smiled once more as I closed the door and went to the cafe

I walked into the cafe after seeing Gary had drove away, right when I walked in Paul started interrogating me
"why are you late? who was that guy? why did you stay in his car more than 5 minutes?" he questioned as I was caught off guard
"Paul calm down you're not my mom!" I retorted
"that guy is none of your business and if I'm late it was because I was waiting for one of my students to get picked up" I scowled and walked passed him and got ready to clock in
"well this is a job you can't walk in here whenever you feel like it" he said as I put a hand on my hip
"this isn't an everyday thing Paul calm down" I rolled my eyes and went to the bathroom to change into my uniform

~ 3rd Person POV ~
After Ash changed into his uniform which was a maid outfit which was embarrassing at first but when he first started working Paul ran out of butler uniforms and said he'd order Ash one but never did so the uniform just stuck with Ash although he had now gotten used to it

While Ash was taking orders since he was a waitress Paul would give the boy scowls out of jealousy, he wasn't being controlling he just didn't like the idea that he was probably seeing someone
"can you quit looking at me so sour, i get it your mad I was late but I care for my students okay? sorry" the boy rolled his eyes as the purple haired boy said nothing making the ravenette sigh and went to take more orders

Once getting to a certain customer Ash noticed was looking at him in a way that made him uncomfortable
he quickly wrote out the order and was making his way to give Paul the order until the man grabbed his arm
"let go of me please" Ash said trying to not make a scene
"you're a cutie" the man said tightening his grip on the ravenette's arm making him wince
"I said let go!" Ash eventually yelled as Paul rushed over
"he said to let go" Paul retorted yanking Ash away close to him as it started to become a confrontation
"Paul stop please? People are staring" Ash whispered as Paul sighed and asked the man to leave which he did

"you okay?" Paul sighed as he checked the boy's arm which was scratched by the customer
"yeah but try to not make another scene I don't want you to lose customers because of me" Ash frowned
"it's not like you begged the guy to grab you forcefully" Paul retorted as the ravenette sighed
"I get you, let's go" he said as they got back to work

"you know Paul I'm thinking of getting a third job considering the fact i only work here 2 days a week" Ash smiled as he cleaned tables
"where at?" Paul said sternly
"I'll be a secretary for a man, the man who dropped me off to be specific" Ash smiled once more making Paul scowl
"who is this man??" he demanded as Ash sighed
"should've shut my mouth" he muttered as Paul scowled more and approached him
"I'm just looking out for you" he said as Ash rolled his eyes
"you're always like this, I can't have ONE friend because here you go jumping to conclusions" Ash said making hand gestures walking away from the purple haired boy

"I want to meet him" Paul said once more and went to the kitchen
"fine you will" Ash crossed his arms
"of I see something fishy on him you will not go with him" Paul added as Ash scowled
"you're such a jealous mess!" Ash groaned as Paul rolled his eyes

– Time Skip To The Next Day –

"hey Gary!" Ash waved as he met the auburn outside the cafe which was basically connected to his house
"hey Mr. Ketchum, so what did you want to talk about?" he grinned
"call me Ash, only Ashley can call me Mr. Ketchum" Ash giggled as Gary chuckled
"I was thinking about taking your job offer" Ash giggled fluttering his eyelashes lightly as the auburn grinned
"I'm glad, would you like to go see my office and we can talk about it? Or some other day?" Gary smiled

"right now let's go!" Ash said excitedly knowing it was Paul's rush hour so he knew he didn't need to introduce Gary to him by any circumstances
"Ash where do you think you're going?" a stern voice said as Ash gulped and turned to see Paul.
