{25} Sounding the Alarm

Start from the beginning

“What's wrong with you?” she asked with a strained voice, her hands holding him tightly as he tried to break her hold. “Curran, look at me!” He did. His one blue and one green eye turned and locked on vvher worried brown ones. He'd never seen her so worried in all the time he had known her. “I need you to fight BlackStar or else everything will be down hill from here. They'll judge us both for treason and once they fight Kid they will execute us.”

Something she said must have gotten to him because he was looking at her, really looking at her. His breath was coming slower than a second ago and she could see herself in his eyes. She was still worried, her eyes wildly looking into his and trying to figure out what was going on with him. Eevee stroked his cheek tenderly with her right hand and her lips twitched into a small smile, but it didn't last long.

Everything that happen next was a complete blur to her and made her doubt she was in the waking world and not the nightmare she calls her subconscious. Blackstar found them, Eevee easily feeling his presence as he jumped down from the above roof, but that wasn't the unbelievable part. The moment BlackStar and Tsubaki had arrived a woman had walked into the abandon road; Curran had turned to her and in a blink of an eye the woman was lying lifeless on the floor and Eevee's weapon had swallowed her soul.

To those around her, Eevee looked like the cold, heartless meister she had been rumored to be after her disappearance. There was not an ounce of emotion on her face or eyes or body that gave away what she was feeling when she saw Curran take the innocent woman's life. Her brown eyes were locked on her weapon's back, her hands hanging loosely on her side, and her mouth set in a straight line. She looked as calm as she did any other day at Shibusen.

No one would be able to tell the fear that ran through her body as she had seen Curran's half-transformed arm dig into the woman's chest. No one would ever feel that instant, nauseating feeling in the pit of her stomach when Curran had pulled out that soul. No one would ever feel the absolute dread hit Eevee when she realize what she had been trade for, what she was expected to turn into. . .a monster.

“Curran—”

“You BASTARD!”

Eevee was shoved against the wall completely forgotten by BlackStar as he ran towards Curran. He was wrapped in Tsubaki's chains as he turned his eyes to BlackStar. Eevee didn't react fast enough and her weapon was struck by the sharp end of Tsubaki. The sound of his agonizing scream as BlackStar dug the blade deeper into his skin and then drag it upward made Eevee lose it completely.

It wasn't the witch blood in her, Eevee wanted to think, but there was nothing else to explain it. All she knew was that she couldn't let anyone touch her weapon. Absolutely no one was allowed to hurt or even touch Curran.

BlackStar was fast, but not as fast as Kid and surely only slightly slower that Eevee when she actually put some effort into doing the excess exercise. She was on Curran's other side in a second, her arm wrapped around his waist as the other surged forward to attack BlackStar with her wavelength. Of course her attack would be like slapping him, no effect, but it threw him off guard long enough for Eevee to pry Curran off Tsubaki's edge.

“Curran,” he changed into his weapon form as soon as Eevee took hold of him, “Soul Resonance!”
