The room was loud, the chatter of people talking mixed with the sound of songs I didn't know the words to. I heard snippets of a few conversations as I walked through the crowds of employees, every single one of them bursting with enthusiasm, drinks in hand. I didn't want to accept the invite, though it would have been rude to flat out refuse to attend.
And so, there I was, awkwardly shuffling between crowds of over-excited strangers. Some of them already looked just about ready to pass out drunk. Others swayed lazily to the rhythm of the music. Most of them were slurring their words. Although it wasn't entirely bad, there was one highlight to attending all of these over the top parties, and I searched through the waves of people until I found him, lingering around towards the back of the room. He stood next to an annoyed looking Tony, who knocked back a glass of god knows what before continuing to give him what seemed to be a lecture.
'Peter!'
I saw him visibly relax as he turned to look for me, a smile already apparent on his face. I made my way through the army of people, finally giving him a much awaited hug. Having someone around that was just as awkward, if not more so, as myself helped me to feel more at ease, he was one of the few people here that I felt comfortable speaking with.
'Hi Mr. Stark!' I smiled up at him as I let go of Peter, who was now a blushing mess.
'Hello y/n, I didn't think you'd be coming.' He spoke, in a rather confused tone.
'Yeah, neither did I, but Dad insisted.' I laughed out nervously. He stood looking for a moment, eyes darting between the pair of us.
'Well you two have fun.' He shot Peter a look that I didn't quite understand and then sauntered off.
We stood there for a while, watching as he walked away, before turning to each other once more. He looked a little worried at first before smiling down at me.
'Do you want to go somewhere?' He questioned, looking over the room to the now much more intoxicated crowd. I nodded, following his gaze to the balcony door.
Grabbing my hand, we eventually pushed our way to the glass door, a few people shouting out to us, trying to drag us to the dance floor as we did so.
The late night air was warm, a contrast to the cool air conditioning inside. The smell of cigarette ash and the lights of the city streets greeted us, along with the dulled sound of music from open windows. He hadn't let go of my hand yet.
We talked for what felt like 10 minutes, only the music had stopped and the world wasn't as loud anymore.
'Peter'
'Hm?'
'I missed you'
His arm drew me closer as he draped it over my shoulder, I could smell a faint cologne as I leaned against him.
'I missed you too y/n' He smiled as he looked to me.
A hundred thoughts raced through my head, he was so close. I felt myself start to blush as I grew more and more nervous. He looked so innocent as he gazed over the railings to the views below.
We stayed linked together in silence for a while, my jacket flowing gently in the breeze, strands of loose hairs brushing against my cheeks.
A soft buzz came from my pocket, lighting up my face as I checked the bright screen.
'Ok, I'll be home soon Dad.' I turned to Peter, an apologetic look on my face, 'I have to go.' A quick smile flashed to his features as he hugged me goodbye, as I turned to leave I felt a sudden grasp on my hand as I was pulled forwards, soft lips brushed against my own.
'I'll see you later y/n'. And with that he left, leaving me standing there for a few moments trying to gather my thoughts.
