A Selfless Cigarette Thief

Start from the beginning

I tapped the glass harshly and glared at him, "It will if you help keep it fucking steady!"

He ignored me and shook his head to himself, his eyes trained on Noah on the ground. Fucking coward. "Nicholas! No!" I screamed as he pushed the door to the left, forcing us towards where the walkers were. A scream escaped my lips as I felt my fingers get crushed as it got caught in between the door and the panel. Glenn pushed the doors back and I immediately snatched my hand away only to realise that Noah had planted himself in front of me while he tried to push the walkers away.

It was all going so fast.

The next I know is that we were on the ground and a rotten hand is wrapped around my ankles. I looked down to aim my other foot to kick when Noah's body mounted on top of me. He lifted his knee and kicked until the walker let go of my foot. Glenn immediately pulled me up to stand and immediately turned back to Noah to help him up when Noah was suddenly pulled away.

I dropped to my knees and held Noah's torso while Glenn did the same. Noah looked up at us and shook his head slowly, "Don't let go." he begged. So we tightened our hold on him and held on. But two pairs of hands are no competition against desperate and hungry walkers. I could feel my left hand pulse in pain as I tightened my hold on his shirt. My eyes widened as his body was harshly pulled away from us.

The rotating doors moved fast and we were separated from Noah and the walkers. Our breathing was ragged and violent as we looked on the sea of rotten limbs. I could barely even see where Noah was, there were just too many. Suddenly, Noah's body lurched against the glass doors and we both jumped away from fright. He stared straight at Glenn's eyes before looking away as blood spluttered from his back as walkers bit into him.

Noah's pained screams created a lump in my throat as my eyes moistened with tears. Glenn hasn't stopped screaming for Noah, frozen in shock. Glenn pushed himself into me as we embraced each other, shielding each other from the sight of Noah's jaw being torn apart right in front of us. I could almost feel Glenn become smaller in my arms, his body shaking as he sobbed for Noah's demise.

Rage enveloped me once I saw Nicholas' familiar curly head. Without thinking, I stormed and ran straight for him, pulling him off from the truck and throwing him on the ground. My fists felt heavy against his face while he just laid there and took it all. I couldn't tell how many punches I threw but all I knew was that no number would be enough.

I only stopped when I heard a crack. I wiped away my tears as I staggered backwards, desperately needing to be away from him. Fucking coward. I should just kill him right here. Blame it on the walkers. Nobody has to know.

"Help me get him in the back." Glenn's croaked voice instructed.

I blinked rapidly as I pushed those thoughts away. I'm being a hypocrite. I shake my head in disappointment before I lifted my head to look at Eugene. He was looking past me with sad eyes, realising what has happened. My eyes dropped to the ground as I moved out of their way, leaning on the van to support the heavy feeling in my heart. Glenn peeked at me through the van doors and ushered for me to get in.
