Thought we'd be together longer

I knew we weren't meant to be together,
Didn't know we were meant to be apart,
Had I known it,
I would've kept my distance from the start,

And this is something I'm yet to accept.
Here I was thinking we'd last forever,
And, if not, we'd still be friends no matter what,
Little did I know I'd be wrong,
So wrong that it isn't half of what I thought,
I won't do anything but let it be,
Cause if I meant enough, you'd be here already.
