Leona cursed under her breath as she made her way out of Simon's van, eyeing the muddy ground. "These are new boots, dammit." The brunette could hear Jace chuckle at her distress before helping Clary out of the van.

Leona silently thanked the angel that the City of Bones wasn't far from the Institution. She didn't favor being squished in the van between Clary and Alec, the Lightwood complaining about Leona's hair getting in his mouth the entire ride.

As everyone got out of the van, the group of six stood and looked at their surroundings. It was fairly dark with it being late at night apart from some lit torches around the bottom of the bridge.

"Yeah, this place isn't creepy," Simon spoke breaking the silence. Isabelle and Leona looked at each other and chuckled at the widened eyes of the mundane. "Not at all."

"Don't tell me you're afraid," Isabelle asked Simon, the boy still looking around him.

Simon looked at the Shadowhunter scoffing, "Are you kidding? I was born afraid...which sounded a lot better in my mind."

Leona huffed in amusement and shook her head.

"Let's check it out," Alec said, ending the conversation as he stepped ahead.

Leona and the Lightwood siblings now stood huddled in a circle as Jace made his way towards them, occasionally looking back to check on Clary.

"Hey," Alec spoke out to Jace, grabbing his attention. "If something goes wrong, if something happens to her, that's on us." Alec looked at him intently. "You know that don't you?"

"Yeah," Jace told him before glancing at the two girls near him, making sure he had their attention as well. "And you know what'd happen if Valentine gets to the Cup before we do."

Isabelle and Leona shared a look before slightly stepping away, seeing that it was a conversation mainly between the two talking.

"She's lost everything, Alec. I know exactly what that feels like." The Lovelace girl felt herself frown. She had always hated what happened to Jace's family. While she was grateful to have known the Wayland boy, no one deserved their family to be taken away.

Alec looked at Clary before looking back at the blonde. "What's your problem with her, anyway?" Jace questioned him. "Your family always used to welcome strays." Leona met Jace's gaze, knowing his statement somewhat applied to them both.

"You were never a stray," Alec told him sternly before turning to look at Leona. "Neither of you were."

Jace shook his head before nodding. "The point is nothing's changed. We're in this fight together." He looked at the girls before continuing, "There's just...one more of us."

Leona took a deep breath, glancing at the three Shadowhunters near her. Her team, the team that she has known and cared for since childhood. They were down a member but suddenly gained a new one.

The brunette had a feeling that they were in for a ride. Whatever—whoever Clary was and her history, they'd face it together. Just like they always had.

The Shadowhunters began to make their way to the entrance of the Silent Brothers. As they all silently walked, Leona couldn't help but let her mind think about Michael. The man would've been right by her side, holding her hand in comfort just as Jace was doing with Clary. She couldn't help but glance at the pair with slight envy at the thought.

The Shadowhunter looked in front of her, seeing the Lightwood siblings walking, and thought of how Michael had gotten along with them. She smiled knowing he would've been dramatically talking about Isabelle's ability to walk in those heels of hers. He was always in awe of what he called death traps, wondering how Isabelle had never fallen in them.
