In the second round of self-editing, you'll go through your manuscript line by line. Here, you'll focus on style, which refers to how grammar, words, and punctuation are used within a written work.

The English language is complicated, and its rules—and exceptions to its rules—can be headache-inducing. Fortunately, there are many tools to help streamline this round. Nearly all fiction editors today adhere to The Chicago Manual of Style, so you can't go wrong sticking with what readers expect. You can also use Microsoft Word's search functionality to cut down the amount of energy spent on this editing activity.
