The night of the Halloween Ball had finally come.

And students from all of the houses were enjoying themselves on the dance floor that had been spelled into the middle of the Great Hall.

Laughter rang out through the room as happy couples danced together, and groups of friends chatted rambunctiously.

The Prewett twins were being chased around by Professor McGonagall for bringing exploding glitter dung bombs with them. Their red hair could be seen weaving in and out of the crowd.

Lucius Malfoy, Narcissa and Bellatrix Black, Carlotta Zabini, Thadius Nott, and Rabastian Lestrange were clustered together in a corner, sneering at the younger students who passed by them.

Lily Evans and Severus Snape were unaware of everything and everyone in the Great Hall as they waltzed around the dance floor, gazing into each other's eyes with love-struck awe.

When Severus had first seen her that evening, he was speechless. His only thought was that she was by far the most beautiful Witch he had ever seen, and he thanked his lucky stars that he had met her when they were children.

His life had been miserable and then Lily came and changed everything.

She was the sunlight to his darkness. The missing piece of his puzzle.

And he would forever be thankful to Adelaide Harthwood for not only helping him in many ways but also for taking James Potter's attention away from his beautiful Gryffindor.

Lily, in turn, marveled at how handsome he looked in his dark dress robes, with his raven hair styled perfectly back from his face.

All of her fears about falling in love with her best friend had disappeared when she had stepped into his arms that evening.

And now, she couldn't imagine the thought of being separated from Severus.

So they continued to sway together in their own lovely world, content to never leave each other.

A short way from them, Della Marcello and Peter Pettigrew were sitting at a table, enjoying the peace of being alone with one another.

Peter held her hand and grinned at her with pure adoration as she spoke softly of her family and the possibility of introducing him to them soon.

He was thrilled that she wanted for him to met her parents and siblings and could only wonder what their future would entail.

Would they get married? Have children of their own? Or possibly a cruppy or two?

He didn't know, but if she decided to stay in his life, he really didn't care what happened. As long as they could figure it out together.

Della fell quiet at one point and thought back to the first day she had truly spoken to the Gryffindor boy across from her.

A loving smile grew on her face as she remembered how Peter had stuttered and blushed and how she had immediately found his eyes captivating.

Little did either of them know, that was the beginning of something magnificent.

What a wonderful day that had been.

------------

Remus wiped his sweaty palms on his dress robe, glancing nervously back and forth around the room in hopes of finding Lark's tall form.

He had concluded that he had been stood up and was about to turn and leave when someone tapped his shoulder.

Grinning broadly, he whirled around and was extremely disappointed to find Katrina Morningale, a Hufflepuff in his year, standing there with a shy smile.
