( xxxvi. more than lucky )

the stars had aligned.

bennett was lucky, for once.

neither lisa nor klee were awake when he'd arrived, and razor had been closest to the door, attempting to sleep on the living room couch, where he and bennett once slept together all that time ago.

the blonde-haired boy, who stood on the other side, panted and ran his hands through his sweaty hair. razor, who was the only one awake, was a bit nervous as to who could be knocking on his door at this hour— and he was surprised that none of the dogs stirred awake, despite the fact that they were all sleeping in their respective doghouses in the backyard. he doubted it was barbara. there was an incredibly low chance that it'd be aether again.

the grey-haired boy practically tip-toed toward the front door, winking one eye to peep through the keyhole.

razor felt sick. there was no fucking way that that was bennett. his heart pounded at what seemed like faster than the speed of light. grey eyes widened, dark pupils dilated and shrunk. cheeks flushed a shade of neon red. he debated to himself whether to answer the door— aether told him to wait, to wait for bennett to speak to him.

he didn't expect the wait to be this short. but the boy he loved was right outside his door. it would be asinine not to answer. there was another knock from bennett. all he had to do was take that shaky hand of his and turn the door knob, ninety degrees.

squinting his eyes shut, pursing his lips, razor silently opened the door. and there he was, glistening in the dark, sweat staining his back, cheeks a shade of red that shouldn't be seen by the human eye. his clear green eyes glittered with love and wanting. to razor, it felt like he hadn't seen bennett in years. bennett felt the same way.

but what was razor supposed to say to him?

the hope painted on razor's face had vanished for a moment, eyes sinking— debating how he should greet the boy in the door frame.

"razor," the blonde said breathlessly, "i know— i look like shit right now, and you're probably wondering what the hell i'm doing here, and you have every right to shut the door on me—"

"bennett. no, stop. me first," he cut him off— suddenly knowing everything that he wanted to say to bennett and more, "please."

razor silently closed the door behind him, stepping outside.

"i won't shut the door on you," he said once bennett was quiet, "razor is— no— i am sorry for scaring you, and wanting you all to myself. i am sorry for kissing you when you didn't want to. i am sorry for everything. if you don't like me... in that way... i understand. but i don't want to lose you. what i did... i scared you away. i don't want to scare you anymore. and, i promise i won't."

here and there, he struggled to find the words— wincing sometimes, pausing, too. but bennett couldn't help but marvel at the words, how perfectly he spoke, as if he'd been practicing, just for this moment. he found himself falling in love with the wolf-like boy all over again.

"whoawhoawhoa, backtrack, you shouldn't be sorry about anything! i'm the one that came here to apologize— i'm the one that's the idiot! i— it somehow didn't register in my mind that you were telling the truth when you said you liked me and i left you without a word. i'm just— no i'm sorry. i'm sorry for being so scared—and, the kiss— i enjoyed that— like— uh, a lot. like i mean a lot a lot, like holy shit— i wanted to kiss you so bad, i always have—i'm sorry for making it seem like i didn't like you back because i do like you. i like you more than anything else in this whole world!! and when i met you, i'd never been happier and i'd never felt so lucky. i was scared that i'd ruin everything for us because i just suck." he held back tears threatening to spill, grasped onto his hair with his fingers.

and suddenly, razor took one of bennett's small hands from his hair, holding it tightly. he chuckled at the things bennett had said.

"no," he said, struggling to find his next words, "you do not suck. you do not ruin everything. bennett, i am lucky that we met. you make me happiest— more than i say. i like you, too. i like you more than anyone i ever met. i will never let you go."

the other's heart skipped a beat, and razor was out of breath from talking so much— his face heated up. and the blonde in front of him wiped a tear from his eye.

"don't cry," said razor, taking his other hand.

"sorry, i'm crying way too much today," was the reply, with a shake of his head and a pretty laugh, "i feel the same way. trust me, i'm never going to let you go either." bennett intertwined his fingers with razor's. razor thought he would melt at the smile on the other's face. he had never been so in love in his life.

"razor— i mean, i trust," he said weakly.

"i'm glad. i trust you, too," said bennett, "i would hug you but i'm super sweaty from running to your house—"

"you... ran to my house?"

"yes, i ran to your house."

razor couldn't help but laugh. and bennett was happier than he ever could have been, hearing how cute it was. it was infectious, and he couldn't help but laugh, too. suddenly, razor leaned in and hugged him, rapidly, as if it was the last time. the other flushed wildly, and returned it. bennett was so warm. it was all razor could think about— the sunny warmth he radiated all around. it was almost magical, how he was able to fall in love with this short blonde idiot in such little time.

"razor," bennett said, muffled by razor's messy grey hair.

"hm?"

"c-can we... can we try the kiss again?"

razor pulled away, grey irises meeting green, a fond look on his face. he grunted in approval, cupping bennett's warm, florid cheek. bennett leaned in immediately, threading his fingers through silvery grey— at first their noses bumped into each other. bennett apologized, and razor insisted he didn't need to, pleasantly laughing. the second time, their lips latched on to one another. it was messy, once again, but painted with all of the words they had finally said to one another. razor's free hand found his way to bennett's little waist and pulled him closer— which earned him a little squeak. he laughed to himself and made a mental note to do that more often. the blonde-haired male felt like he was floating on a cloud, as he caressed the soft grey locks atop razor's head.

breathless, and lips flushed, they both pulled away, feeling an otherworldly bliss. "bennett... can i... do that again...?"

he couldn't decline— not that he wanted to anyway.

tired, act III.
completed.
