Jace's POV

it has been about a month since I talked to Chloe last. I only see her when I take the kids out. She does try to talk to me, but I ignore her. I don't want to. Ever since that night, I can't look at her the same. I can't look at myself the same. 

Today I am going out with Ella & Jack to brunch. Just catching up. I wore ripped denim jeans and tight grey shirt that hugged my body and white vans. 

Once we sat down and ordered, Ella spoke up 

"No kiddies this week?" She asked 

"No, I let them stay with Chloe this weekend" I respond 

"Dude you should have seen Mike's tackle the other day, it was like woah!" Jack exclaimed 

We both chuckled, Michael was a pretty good football player for a 5 year old 

"He has quite the attitude though" Ella adds 

"Definitely gets it from his dad" Jack says 

I laughed a little, I guess I won't admit it but it is true. I definitely have the anger issues and attitude. 

"You should have bought Chloe along, it would have been a fun double date" Ella says as she watched my head drop down and stare at the floor "Oh no.. I know that look. What happened?"

"Well last month me and Chloe had a fight, and she doesn't think we should be together anymore" I answer 

"Oh no" Ella frowned 

"Well you're not giving up, right? You never give up, especially when it comes to her" Jack adds 

"I know, but, I think this is the end for our love story" I respond 

"What, no!" They both yelled, getting a few glares. 

"This can't be the end. You guys were the love story everybody wanted" Ella says 

"Well, not everyone gets what they want" I answer. 

We all sighed and sat back and sat in silence till our food came. The conversation led to work, politics, bills, and sports. Very boring people.

"Hey next week, you me and Mike should go to those new batting cages that just opened up in the park down the road" Jack says

"You know what" I said "I would really like that. We'll be there" I said finishing up my sandwich. 

"Great" he responds, chewing still. 

"Oh Jace, I've been meaning to tell you. Mom & dad are planning a family trip to go on the Disney cruise right around Christmas time" Ella announces 

"Disney cruise?" I question "Aren't mom & dad in their 50's?"

"Yeah but, we all thought you and Chloe were together still and the kids would have came along.." Ella responds 

"Oh" I said "We'll see" 

After a few more minutes chatting, we said our goodbyes and went our own ways. Once I sat down in the kitchen at home, I decided to text Chloe. I still had the red heart on her name from years ago, and the same profile picture of her at the beach with beach waves in her hair and a flower. I've always loved it. 

-Hey, mind if I take Michael out next week for a few hours. I will come back and take Ava out for lunch

-Only if I can come for lunch 

"God damn it Chloe" I say to myself. I give in, not trying to fight 

-Alright. See you next week. 

Being a father, made me proud. I had a little boy following my footsteps and a little girl who was my princess. But I also felt embarrassed. Embarrassed of my past decisions. I was never there for anything. I wasn't there for the birth, the first steps, first words, first day of School. I felt like I missed out on half of their life. I wouldn't be surprised if when they grew and hated me for it, because I hate myself for it too. I don't know where me and Chloe stand and I do not know what the future holds for us and our relationship.
