[Chen Ju Fen]

The chrysanthemum fragrant blooms at dawn.

At the age of 22, she died by the hands of her so-called husband and at the feet of her 'sworn' sister. Dying regretfully for wasting her life on a man who had thrown her away so easily like an used tissue, she opens her eyes to the familiar sight of her bedroom at the age of 16; it was exactly one year before she married him.

Now she makes a choice: follow with the original story or take another route.

Highly recommend Chinese novel! Especially to those who're looking for Asian Lit or those who're into rebirth, a story telling of second chance in life with enough amount of schemes for revenge. Also, if there is anyone here who is a user in webnovel app, then maybe you would love this too like do.

To start with, Jufen is a strong honorable female lead. I loved the fact that she isn't seeking revenge at first when she realized she came back to her younger self, but decided to live better in her second life instead. The payback only started when her loved ones have gotten affected or targeted in a dangerous circumstance. She is a smart, sly, and cunning - she's cute when she claims to be selfish when in fact, she is just a softie in disguise. My heart breaks for her for some parts in the book. I mean who wouldn't after a shattering betrayal. But, I'm glad she has Jun and she have learned to trust and love again.

Jun is not a cold nor indifferent male lead. Well, he isn't so towards Jufen to be precise. He is absolutely swoon worthy ♡ Love how he treasures Jufen so much. I think he had unrequited feelings for her since they were young. I guess it's just more convincing with all the little details, like calling her nickname, remembering her likes, the teasing, the rubbing of foreheads, how he notices Jufen little gestures and many more. He is a certified sweet talker also. But, not in a deceiving way ofc. He is indeed a sweet talker while honest at the same time like bearing his heart on his sleeves. I love it so much that they got together in Jufen's second life. It honestly brought joy and beauty. One of the things I appreciate about Jun is unwavering affection for Jufen, regardless if it's reciprocated yet.

"I don't need you to believe in love. I need you to believe in me."

-Xu Jun.

The book was a such a healing story. I had to take a break because of the intensity of Jufen and Jun's communication with regards to their feelings. I admire Jun for his persistency. He is a real man who knows how to treat his special one well. I love the progress of their relationship so much. Jun only needed her to believe in him and let him show her what true love is, regardless if Jufen feels the same yet or not, while Jufen gave Jun a chance despite the thought of it's risks (mainly because she was traumatized in her last life). In a way, they were giving and taking - an aspect of a healthy relationship.

The story is well-balanced with the politics, schemes, humor, drama and ofc fluff (even had brief information about the norm and culture). Although, the author said the pace will pick up halfway in the story, I don't feel it rushed at all. The storyline was smooth and natural - already solid in my opinion for a short story. Anyway, the book is honestly an another beautifully good read. A definite favorite and an absolutely worth rereading.

Highly recommend! Give it a go if it interests you ♡
