Hard Knock Life

"WAKE UP" Mr Callaghan stormed into the boys room, yelling at them to get up and get dressed immediately.

"But it's 5am in the morning, on a Saturday Sir!" Andy moaned.

"I don't care! The Social Services inspector is coming round and I want this place to shine. Now get up out of bed the lot of you!" Mr Callaghan yelled once again, walking over to Fred's bed and whipped the covers off his bed and threw them on the floor.

Everyone climbed out of their beds quickly and shoved their usual tatty clothes on before grabbing the mops and buckets filled with soapy water.

"It's the hard knock life" Fred sighed, whilst throwing his mop back and forth against the wooden floor boards.

"Agreed.." All the boys nodded their heads together whilst making their beds.

They washed the windows, mopped the floors, swept the stairs, made their beds. Helping each other and trying to make a laugh out of a bad situation.

"No one cares for you a smidge, when you're in a orphanage" Tommy sighed whilst mopping the staircase.

Hiro through a bucket of water outside the window which splashed Andy right in the face who was cleaning the balcony, and soaked him through with dirty soap water.

"Oops." Hiro said under his breath and he jumped out of the window and started to climb the metal pipes as fast as he good, Andy was not far behind him. All of the boys come out onto the balcony splashing water at each other and throwing their litter into the garbage bin below the building.

Hiro made it to the top and was on the roof of the building, there was no where else to go. Andy has just reached the top of the roof and walked over to Hiro.

"You're dead Hiro!" He shouted, and lunged forward at an attempt to grab and his jacket, but Hiro quickly dodged the attack and ran back towards where he came up and slide down the pipe back down to the balcony.

"Hiro quick hide in here!" Tommy smiled at him and pointed towards the laundry basket. 

Hiro jumped into the basket and the other boys threw their blankets and sheets on top of him to keep him hidden until Andy left.

Andy jumped through the window and started yelling at all the boys to tell him where Hiro is.

"Tommy! Where's Hiro" Andy demanded.

"I-I'm not sure.. Andy" Tommy stuttered his words.

"You'll tell me otherwise you'll never get adopted by any of the parents" Andy lied.

"I-" Tommy began, but was cut off by Mr Callaghan storming into the room now wearing a suit.

He was trying to straighten his tie around his neck, whilst glaring down at the boys who were standing against their neat beds.

"What's all the commotion!" Callaghan yelled.

"Tommy won't tell me where Hiro has disappeared to Sir" Andy told.

Mr Callaghan turned his attention towards Tommy, and walked over to where Tommy was standing who was slightly trembling and fiddling with his fingers.

He knelt down to Tommy's size and looked into his eyes.
"Tommy. Where's Hiro?"

"I-urr..he-"

"He went to the bathroom!" Fred shouted over the top of Tommy's squeaky voice.

"Yeah-yeah Hiro went the bathroom Mr Callaghan Sir.." Tommy agreed.

"Well don't just stand their gawking at me go, Breakfasts on the table. It's your favourite... Mush" Callaghan smiled.

The boys all moaned at the same time in complete synchronisation.

"Quit your whining, or you won't even get anything to eat.. Understand!"

"Yes Mr Callaghan" the boys said once again and hurried out the door, Mr Callaghan followed behind.

Hiro sighed in a breath of relief, and was about to unravel himself from the bundle of sheets when he felt himself being moved from the spot he was placed in and was actually being pushed.

He could feel the cold air breeze against the sheets, Hiro knew he must be outside. He felt himself be lifted up and then heard the sound of doors being slammed. And then the sound of an engine being started and felt himself moving again

"Oh no.." Hiro thought to himself.
