Writing action scenes involves knowing how to pace the narrative so that readers are fed the action at a steady and satisfying speed. If your action sequences are built with long-winded sentences full of verbs and descriptions, it will likely confuse and overwhelm your audience. Shorter sentences get to the point more simply, delivering the visual quickly and efficiently, cutting down on bulky filler words.

Before expecting writers to vary their sentence lengths, we first have to define what constitutes different lengths.
● short sentences include 1-3 words
● medium sentences include 4-9 words
● long sentences include 10 or more words.
