Y/N POV

I was late to school and I've tried to shorten the way by running through the woods.

Mr. Phillips will kill me.

I quickly stamped through the muds and leaves.

My breath hitched out of relief when I saw the school building in front of my eyes.
I stopped trying to catch my breath and then stated to walk to the school.

Just when I opened the door, I've heard Mr. Phillips groaning because of my late showing.

"You're very late, miss Y/N." He rested on the table, folding his arms.

"I'm so sorry, Mr. Phillips. My father is sick and the rain-"

"I will not hear any more excuses. You were late and you have to face the consequences." The teacher chuckled with his dark voice. "Come here." He pointed to the place near him.

The cold shiver went down my body and I felt like my heart will jump out of my body.

The whole class was silent expect for some boys who were laughing silently to themselves. Everyone was looking down, not even sparing a look.

Suddenly a voice broke the silence.

"But sir, she hasn't done anything wrong." The dark-haired boy stood up from his seat. "It wasn't her fault she was late."

"It's none of your business, Gilbert." Mr. Phillips said irritated. "Sit down and do your work."

My eyes wandered to the boy and he looked at me. His furrowed eyebrows shot up.

"I won't sit down till you let Y/N go." Gilbert stood firmly. "As I've said before she hasn't done anything wrong, so it's really unnecessary to keep her there and punish."

"If you defend miss Y/N so bravely, why don't you go up here and stand next to her, Gilbert?" Our teacher rolled his eyes.

To everyone's surprise the boy moved from his spot and stood right next to me.

"Everyone, do the problems on page 394." Mr. Phillips said. "You two." He pointed at us. "Will stand like that for the rest of the day."

I bit my lips in order to not say something witty or offending. My head turned to face Gilbert.

The boy just smiled at me and looked down chuckling. I didn't even notice how a smile appeared on my face too.

The classes were going so slowly but Gilbert made it easier to get through it. We would sometimes change some looks or smiles with each other.

"Class dismissed." Mr. Phillips sighed.

I quickly got to my table and started collecting things.

"Hey, Y/N." Gilbert came to my table.

"Umm... hi?" I chuckled.

The boy's cheeks redden and he scratched his neck.

"Uh... Are you going home?" He looked up to make eye contact.

"Yeah." I smiled. "Why are you asking?"

"I just wanted to walk you home."

"Oh, that's very nice of you. I would really enjoy your company, Gilbert." I smiled.

"Uh.. okay. So, I'll wait for you outside?" The boy pointed to the door.

"Okay." My teeth sinked down my lower lip as I smiled.

Time skip

We were walking down the road. It was still wet after all the rain.

Both of us weren't really talkative so it was quite silent.

"How is your father?" Gilbert broke the silence.

My mouth let out a sight.

"He is doing very bad these days. I don't know what's wrong but his fever is really high and he doesn't stop coughing."

"May I come and take a look at him. Maybe I'll know what to do to make your father feel better." Gilbert offered.

"That is so nice of you. I don't know how I would be able to repair for what you've did today. I'm really thankful." I stopped and turned to him.

I took a step closer and embraced the boy into a tight hug. His warmth and smell was so soothing.

Gilbert put his hands around me and brought me closer to his embrace.

We broke the hug and I was about to back away when Gilbert took my face in his hands and smashed his soft lips on mine.

My body froze as the world around exploded into millions of pieces. I responded to the kiss by grabbing the boy on the back of his neck and deepening it.

I don't know how much time has passed but suddenly we broke the kiss. Both of us stood there, touching foreheads and breathing deeply.

"I like you, Y/N. And I've liked you for so long, God." Gilbert confessed.

My ears burned up.

"I like you too, Gilbert." My hand went up to brush his hair.

The boy suddenly took both of my hands into his.

"I promise to treat you like an equal, to always be there for you when you need me and respect you."

I felt a soft burning in my eyes.

"I promise that to you too." A tear rolled down my cheek. Gilbert raised his hand and brushed the tear away, leaning into another kiss.

And we both kept our promises.  After that, we started to spend so much more time together.

Gilbert started to look after my father and after a few weeks he was healed.

Me and Gilbert opened doors to something new and amazing we never thought we would experience.
