"Silas.....Silas !....SILAS WAKE UP!!! If I see you sleeping in my class again I'll report you to the principles office. We both know you wouldn't like that," she mocked.
"Do you know who I am Mrs McKenna? He announced. I am the Ultimate Opportunist; Silas ladies and gentlemen if you've forgot."
"Yes Yes we known about your stupid made up nickname and trust me we didn't forget, you say it everyday. I just don't care and neither does the class Silas so please stop holding all of us up some of us are actually trying to learn something meaningful," she sighed.
"Alright class, the assignment for today is for you to find a partner and choose one of the 4 topics on the board; World War 1, Struggles of Minorities in the world, Corruption in the Government, or The French Revolution," she announced." While waiting for one of the classmates to come over and pick him as a partner, a strange thought crosses his mind: "What if I'm the only one who has friends?" Suddenly everywhere you look in the classroom everyone has a partner except a girl in the corner of the room. She looks so mysterious and calm, her brown hair hypnotizes him. He gets up and walks steadily towards her in a slow motion trying to be cool.

"The names Silas, and you are?"
"No hey, no how you doing? Your very rude for someone so popular, work on them manners."
"I should make you show me your credit card as an apology but it'll probably decline if I needed to buy something so cheap as gum," she laughed.
"You know it's also very rude to not remember your classmates names even though we've been in the same class all school year. The name's Leila".
"What's up with that bed head?" "Sometimes I can never tell if your hair is black or brown."
"My hair is brown just like yours but yours is more hypnotic by the way it moves when wind passes by," he said.
"If you said that to any normal girl, you'd immediately get called a creep but i appreciate the comment since I do put ally of effort into my hair," she smiled.
"Okay but for real what's up with the bed head?"
"I was up all night reading, you know, trying to get smarter."
"We both know you're lying Silas, you were probably up playing games like some creepy virgin."
"How do you know I'm a virgin? I should call you a closet pervert that does crappy cosplay but that'd be an understatement," he chuckles.
"Anyway, what should our topic be so we could get an easy grade. I was thinking that we should do is Corruption in the Government, you know discuss aliens and myths going on in politics," he insisted.
"I never said I would be working with you, you should be lucky I need an easy A to get my grade up" she laughed.
"Bell rings" "Alright class we will pick this back up next week when we present as a class one by one so make sure you have everything you need to present," the teacher shouted.
"Alright Silas I'll catch you later, I might just do the project myself since I doubt you're going to be any help to me anyways," she taunted.
"So that's a yes? Man females are weird," he mumbled.
"You've got to be shitting me right now, how dare you say that? I'll have you know that I'm one of the top 25 smartest kids.in our class"
"Silas, there is only 18 kids in our class, so please tell me what number you think you are ?"
"Are you - are you actually serious right now? Wow, that's... I can't even."
"Yes I'm serious Silas now see you later, I've got homework to do, something you know nothing about," she sighed.

Silas gets his school things together, putting his lanyard in pocket of his red backpack. The teacher walks out saying she has to go to some boring school facility meeting, so Silas just walks out the room still pissed about the girl making a fool out of him.
He walks in the house late as always since he doesn't go home right away, his father glares at him but he decided to ignore him. He looked around anxiously for the money he left for his sick mom's monthly medical bills.
"Aye old man, where is the money I left on this table morning? It was $1k saved up from work."
"Boy you better watch who your talking to, he said aggressively."
"I left some money here for my mother and I see a newly opened beer package on the table, so you want to tell me what it is I see or are my eyes mistake me ?"
"Boy you better watch your tone, how you know I didn't buy those with my own money," the father mumbled.
"I spent that money getting my car fixed after you scratched it with that dumb ass bike of yours then spent the rest on some of the boys down at the bar."
"Of course you'd spend it, every time you fuck up you put everyone in this house in a tight position."
"SHE HAS FUCKING CANCER AND YOU WANT TO BUY BEER AND CELEBRATE WITH YOUR JUNKIE FRIENDS," he shouted!
" YOU NEVER GET OFF YOUR ASS TO GET SOME WORK DONE AROUND HERE YOU LAZY PRICK!!"
As my fathers hand winded up with full force, my life flashed before my eyes once again like it was the first time he had swung on me years ago.

"WATCH WHO YOUR TALKIN TO BOY OR YOU GONNA END UP JUST LIKE YOUR BROTHER ROTTING IN A JAIL CELL," he shouted.
"Only reason he's in there in the first place is because he kicked your ass and you filed charges your bastard," Silas muttered.
Again and again he punched, then he pushed me roughly against the wall picking me up and slammed me on my back with a loud thud as I grasped for air. I tried hard as my vision got blurry making it hard for me to process what was going around me. He screwed up my face definitely leaving it in bad shape again but worse this time .

"You okay Silas? I'm sorry for putting you through this.""Cough" "Cough"
"No mom, everything's okay, just the usual, nothing I can't handle."
"You should get some rest and try to recover, I have to go to work so I can pay for your bill this month, I'll be back a little bit later tonight."
"Ok son be safe, make sure you don't stay out too late," she whispered
"I won't mom, I love you, goodnight."
Silas grabs his coat and leaves the house to where he handles business. On his way he sees Leila walking into the convenience store.

"Hey Leila, what you doing out so late? You know Chicago can get dangerous especially around hours close to nighttime," he asked.
"Yea I know, I just had to run and get some last minute things for myself. What about you? Why're you out so late?"
"I'm supposed to be working my night shift for work but I seen you so I thought I'd come in and speak," he said.
"I'll get going though, make sure you get home safe. Here's my number and then you can just text me when you get there."
"Alright thank you, see you tomorrow at school."
Silas makes his way to Michigan Avenue where he and an unknown dealer exchange packaging.

"Yo, you're late, and what the hell happened to your face Silas?" He asked surprisingly
Silas sniffs, wiping the blood from his lips and clinching his fists. "Just some stuff happened back at home, nothing too serious."
"It's not nothing," he grumbles, swapping the package out for Silas. "I'm not going to ask no further then i should," he says.
"You going to be okay tonight Silas, it's a little too dark out for you to be out this late."
"Yea man, I'll be just fine, no need to worry and tell the boss man I'll have the product moved before 8 in the morning," he exclaims.
"Alright Silas, be safe. Call if you need anything."
Silas gets to walking but he thinks on how he's going to move the heavy load he has on him. "Alright so I'll start at the top of Michigan Avenue and then swing through the Blackhawks Store then to Private Tours and Productions."

"Buzz Buzz" "You have 1 New Notification"
"Reads Text: I just made it home - Leila"
"I didn't actually think she'd text me, well that's good she's home safely.
"Alright let's get a move on, I got medical bills to pay," he shouted proudly.

Silas approaches the alley near Michigan Avenue where he sees his first customer.
"Alright man let's make this quick and easy, I just want my money and I'll be out of here," Silas hesitated.
"Okay let me get 14 grams and a gram of 3.5."
"Your total is $190, all cash," he said.
"Well I don't have $190, so I think we got a problem on our hands young fella. Just give me everything and there won't be no problems."
"Yea your right, there isn't gonna be no problems because I'm not giving you shit," Silas taunts.
A moment of silence echoed over the punch layer so quick into the mans jaw. Silas socks him in the face dropping the customer leaving him shocked by the amount of force in that punch. Silas sprints to the Michigan Avenue bridge where the man then pulls out a gun and starts firing shots. A deafening crack of thunder filled up the area as he pulled the trigger once... twice... hitting the package making everything fall out.
"Awe shit, more and more things just keep on happening, I'll figure it out later," he worried.
Silas drops his school ID in the process of trying to dodge shots and bolts home in a hurry.
"YOU BETTER KEEP RUNNING BOY AND WHEN I FIND YOU, YOUR A DEADMAN," he yelled.
"So that's where you go to school, Bronzeville Scholastic Institute High School. Alright I'll be seeing you tomorrow Silas Nox."
