I struggled. I really struggled. I was awake all night, keeping myself up with cookie crunch and coffee. I would not recommend the combination. First time I tried it, I felt like my heart was going to explode in my chest. Now that's worn off and it's all deafening silence and crippling exhaustion. I couldn't sleep though. I couldn't let that thing find me. Jack stayed with me during the day while Sam and Dean were hunting. Kelly also had to go to work,

"So why are you trying to stay up?" He asked,

"Because" I paused, trying to think of how to explain it to him, "When I dream, I see my dad" Jack ducked his head,

"I'm sorry. If I could use my powers, I'm sure that I could help you"

"It's a bit more complicated than that" I said, putting an arm around his shoulders, "I see where he really is. Right now. He's awake. There's a creature there with him and it could see me. It could even touch me" Jack tilted his head like a puppy dog, "It appears under my bed when I wake up but it's scared of the light. I have to stay awake so it won't get me"

"But, that means you'll have to stay up forever" Jack said, "Never get sleep" I sat back. He was right. I can't avoid sleep forever,

"I just... don't know what else to do" Kelly came home from work and made us dinner. She watched me a lot while we ate,

"You don't look so good Grace" She said. I paused,

"Don't feel it either" I took another mouthful. She didn't know what to say, didn't know what to do either. Any time I did sleep, I flew into a wall in my attempts to escape my dreams. She couldn't help that. I couldn't help but think she'd get hurt if she tried,

"Sam called" She changed the subject, looking over both of us, "He asked about you"

"How's the hunt?" I asked,

"It's over" Was all she gave. I got the impression that she also knew it had been bad,

"They both ok?" She nodded,

"What was it?" Jack asked, not really picking up on any heaviness,

"A ghost" She said. As night fell, I was on my own. I had a belly full of warm food thanks to Kelly though it did make me sleepy. I said my goodnight to Jack as he went to bed first. Kelly didn't want to leave, "Grace. You can't avoid sleep forever" I nodded,

"Maybe I can for now. I'll find something else. I'll research while I'm up" She shook her head,

"Please" I shook mine more,

"I can't risk it. If I start flying blindly and hit you? I hit walls with a lot of force, I will serious hurt you" She gave up. Her methods weren't working anymore. There was silence. I decided to have a shower while everyone was asleep. The cold running water actually felt very refreshing and I'd felt better than I had for a while. It wasn't until I started scrubbing myself that I realised there was a bruise in the shape of a handprint on my arm. It hadn't healed yet so it had to have been fresh. When was that shifter case? No. I would have healed from that. This was from my dreams. The creature grabbed me there. I opened up my wings and the cold water ran through the feathers. I don't know how to look after them but I put down the shower pressure just in case. I didn't need any bald spots forming. My wings ached like usual. They'd been hitting against walls so often that they just felt like they were a big massive bruise. I searched through the feathers of one wing though and sure enough, scratches. It wasn't just seeing me, it was hurting me. I got out the shower to dry off and drink coffee. I was not going to be sleeping tonight at all. I drunk it a little slower than last time and that seemed to help. I kept rubbing at my chest though because my heart was still breaking my ribs with every beat.
