Chapter 1

When Grace woke up she was covered in sweat. No light shone into the room but she could hear voices outside a nearby door. Feeling her way around the room she felt the door and slowly opened it.

An alarm sounded and she took off in a random direction. Running fast but getting nowhere was the only thought that replayed through her head. Strong arms wrapped around her and she started to scream.

"Who are you and what do you want with me?" She yelled so loud everybody stopped what they were doing to stare at her. Her fist contacted with the face that belonged to the arms and they dropped her.

Grace knew right next to nothing about combat. She had learned from her parents, before they died, the simple trick of keeping her feet on the ground and keeping her head level.

Thoughts of battle strategy ran through her mind and she lost concentration for a second. Or at least she thought she did before she noticed that she was hitting the guy.

His snarl scared her and she backed up until her back hit a wall. Damn, she thought, if I'm trapped against a wall he will beat me without even trying. Kicking like mad, she hoped to keep him away.

His speed was unusually fast and he grabbed Grace without a problem. Her strength was running low but she hoped one good punch would set her free.

Slamming her fist upwards, the sound of cracking bones hit her ears. Not only did she hit his fist, but she broke her hand in the process. Tears rushed to her eyes and she fell to the floor.

The guy picked her up and put her on his back. She didn't recognize anything about where she was and the frightened emotions rushed to her head. The man glared and just when she thought he was going to kill her, he dropped her.

"For the love of God, stop screaming!" He said holding his head. She could finally see what he looked like and it was a huge surprise to her. He had wavy brown hair that came down to his chin. He was absolutely gorgeous in every way.

She could tell he was Korean by the shape of his eyes. They were slightly more open than most Asians and brown. His jaw was square and hard set. He was glaring at her and she stared at the floor embarrassed.

"Oh, I'm so sorry. I just happened to have broken my hand. Could you at least show a tiny bit of compassion?" Grace yelled as she laid on the floor. Her eyes still set in an all out glare. How dare he tell her to stop yelling, she thought.

"Whatever, just get up. We have tons to do. I'll send you to get your hand fixed after. Promise." The guy said and started walking in the direction they came from.

"What's your name?" Grace asked. Hoping to catch him off guard and run. At this moment, many thoughts were running through her head. Most of them plans on how to escape.

"Joon, but you don't need to know that. I just work for the guy that really wants you." Joon said, confusing Grace. At this point she was almost running to keep up with him. Damn he's fast, Grace thought.

"Well, what's his name?" Joon glared at Grace. She felt like that was the only expression he was allowed to do. A perfect scowl she thought. There was something interesting about him and Grace couldn't seem to place it.

"You don't need to know that. Its unimportant." Now it was Grace's turn to glare again. She felt like everybody was keeping secrets from her lately. Growling quietly she kicked Joon and started to walk off in the opposite direction he was going. "What the hell was that for!" He yelled.

"That's for everybody not telling me anything. I get kidnapped off the side of the street as I'm walking home. The least you could do is tell me a stupid name! Or I don't know, let me go!" Grace was now fuming. Her whole face was red and her eyes were blood shot. Baring her teeth and kept walking until she felt Joon grab her wrist.

Ignoring it, she walked all the way back to the room she first came out of. She sat down and stared at the floor. Tears slowly fell down her face for the first time in a while. Joon walked into the room and sat beside her on a table. He felt bad but he didn't know what he could do to help her.

"I just want to go home," she whispered. His arms went around her immediately and she sobbed into his chest. Letting her pain soak into him he thought that this was the only way to help her. Her pain wracked his body until he felt tears run down his own face.

Joon had been taken when he was a baby. He, though, never knew his family. All he knew in life was this place so he didn't understand at first why she would be so freaked out.

Joon wasn't the man that had kidnapped Grace but if she needed to think that, then so be it.

Now he could feel what it was like to have a family. It was nice but it would keep all of them from doing what they needed.

"I'm your guardian. I'm here to protect you as you go through school at Kira Academy." Joon said hoping it wasn't too much for her to handle.

"Kira Academy?" Grace said confused out of her wits. More thoughts and more plans. Why is my brain acting this way, she thought.

"Don't worry about it. You'll learn in good time." This time she wasn't upset that he didn't tell her. She trusted him when he said she would learn. Still being pissed she squirmed in his arms. This time he let her go.

"Thank you." Came her muffled voice.

"For what?" Joon said making sure she didn't move her bad hand too much.

"For letting me cry and not being an ass for about five minutes Oh and I'm still going to escape." She said, her eyes showed true compassion and she smiled. He blushed and tried not to cough. He had never felt such feelings before about another being.

"Well see." Were his simple words but they made Grace not want to struggle any longer. Well, at least for now.

Joon looked down at the girl he was talking to, wondering what made him be nice to her. Grace looked back up at him and smiled. Out of nowhere he was shoved backwards and onto his back. He hit his head in the process. He could hear the heaven like laughter coming from the girl standing above him, until he reached out and pulled her down with him by the ankle.

They fought like children for the next couple of minutes until Joon one and picked Grace up again. Her hand still hurt like hell but now the pain was a low dull.

They walked to a room that was filled people dressed like nurses and a bunch of machines.

"She broke her hand hitting me. Can you fix it?" Joon asked one of the many ladies. She smiled sweetly and took Grace's good hand.

Leading her over to one of the machines. She stuck the bad hand in. Grace gasped feeling a cold icy like material touch her hand. Waiting for about a minute, the lady took her hand out showing it to Joon.

"Thank you so much." Joon said gratefully. He bowed in respect and led Grace away.

Her eyes wide surprised she examined her hand for herself. Everything was back in place and she didn't feel anymore pain.

"What just happened," Her mind spoke for her.

Joon smiled and whispered in her ear. "All in good time."
