Asriels POV

I'm only a few hours away from the next town now. I'll sign up to be an adventurer there. I need to restock anyways. I wonder if they'll even accept me when I can't use magic yet. At least I have some experience with hunting monsters already.

"I feel dumb. I forgot to use appraisal on myself," I mumbled as I sat on the grass. I crossed my legs in a meditative position before focusing on myself. "Appraisal," I whispered.

"What does it mean error! Am I not human?!" I shouted in frustration. Also, why medium low danger? Shouldn't it just be low? "Mraow?" I heard. A monster? I quickly located the source as a small bloody lion cub. It was staring at me in confusion. "Appraisal," I said.

"Shane huh? Nice name. I'm Asriel," I introduced myself.  Shane seemed startled at my comments. He obviously didn't expect to be found out so fast. "Ah, I used a skill called appraisal. That's how I know," I said as I rubbed the back of my neck. Shane still seemed confused, but he said nothing. Is he gonna stay in his beast form? Oh well.

"Well, I'll be going now," I said as I continued my way to the upcoming town. Occasionally I would see Shane following me, but I didn't mind much. "Are you hungry? I have food," I said after a few minutes of walking. "Mraow!" I heard before feeling a new weight on my leg. I looked down with a smile as I pulled out some of my stored meat. He heartily started to eat it after a quick sniff before looking back at me for more.

I let out a small laugh before giving him a few more pieces of meat. After he ate, he layed down by my feet. "You're tired? Want me to carry you?" I asked. He gave a slight nod as I gently pulled him into my arms. It didn't take long for him to fall asleep. After awhile of walking, I could faintly hear yelling in the distance. I quickened my pace in hopes of hearing what was going on.

"Shane! Where are you?!" I heard a worried female voice shout. I covered Shanes ears as I shouted back. "He's here!" I said as I continued my way to them. I heard thunderous footsteps as three figures came running followed by a small group. "My baby!" A man yelled as he swept a startled Shane from my arms. As they were worrying over him, the third person was staring me down.

I could feel a cold chill as she didn't let up her gaze for even a second. She had fox ears and a tail, showing that she was also a beast kind. I tried using appraisal, but it only said my level wasn't high enough. "Sir, ma'am...," she said with a sweat drop. They didn't even hear her.

"I guess I'll be going?" I said, only to be stopped by a sword at my throat. "Not yet your not," She said with a protective glare. "Chelsea, be nice," Said a young male. Looking around, I realized that Shane had turned into his human form. He had tan skin and long black hair matched with green eyes. He had a long, pale yellow shirt and brown shorts, accented by his lion tail and ears.

The sword was taken away, allowing me to turn to see the other two being joined up with their guards. The mother had yellow eyes pitch black hair and panther ears with a matching tail. The father had golden brown hair and emerald eyes, also paired with lion ears and tail.

"He's my new friend. He found me and gave me really good food!" Shane said in a proud childish voice. "Thank you for bringing him back and taking care of him," said his mom. "Who are you," asked the fox lady in a hostile tone. "Ah, I'm Asriel," I said nervously. She obviously doesn't trust people easily.

"Don't be so rude Chelsea! He's a child for God's sake!" Said the dad. The foxes ears folded down as she quietly apologized. "I'm Delana and this is my husband, Erin. Sorry about Chelsea dear," said Delana. I nodded in acknowledgement as Shane started to pull me over to him. "Can I have more meat please?" He asked with puppy eyes. I faltered as I gave him some more.

"Where are you're parents Asriel?" Asked Erin. "Ah, I don't know," I said casually. Before he could respond, Shane spoke. "Then can you stay with us? We're staying in the next town for five days," he pleaded. After getting a nod of approval from his parents, I agreed.

"Well then, let's get back to the carriage," said Delana.
