~Chapter 4~

You're caught off guard, so you flinch. You turn around to find Kirishima running up to you. You stop and wait for him to catch up.

Kirishima: Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you ! I just wanted to see if you were okay after....today.

Y/n: No worries, I'm all good. Thank you for checking up on me ! By the way, I see you placed 3rd, great job !

Kirishima: Thank you ! You did a great job as well, I told you there would be nothing to worry about.

Y/n: I placed 10th...

Kirishima: I know it's not the best, but you still gave it your all, that's what matters. There's always room for improvement, for myself, and even for Todoroki who placed 1st.

Y/n: Wow that's a great way to look at it.

There's an awkward silence between you.

Kirishima: So...I noticed you walking back. I was about to grab dinner at the cafeteria before it closes for the night. I was wondering if you'd like to join, Denki is already there. Or, if you're tired after today I totally understand if you need your rest !

Y/n: Of course I'll join, I had an apple and a bottle of water before class, I'm starving.

Kirishima: Awesome ! I hope they serve something good today.

During your walk to the cafeteria, you can't help but shake the thought of Kirishima's words from hours before.

Kirishima: "It's a long story to explain why I reacted the way I did."

You halt to a stop.

Kirishima: Are you okay ?

Y/n: Oh yeah ! It's just that I've been thinking. I told you not to explain yourself, but I'm curious. Can you tell me the long story that you mentioned earlier that caused you to react the way you did ?

Kirishima's demeanor starts to change. His face is a little sunken, but still manages to maintain a weak smile. You take notice.

Y/n: I'm sorry for pressing, I-

Kirishima: -No, it's okay, it's just not something I usually talk about, but I understand that you'd like to know. Every reaction definitely warrants an explanation.

Kirishima begins to tell you about his past, his admiration for Crimson Riot, and why he used to hate his quirk. You listen intently as you're beginning to learn and understand his personality.

Kirishima: -That day when I was in middle school and I stood there letting the villain pester my classmates, I felt ashamed of myself. I kept asking myself , how was Mina so brave ? Why couldn't I have been brave ? Why didn't I move ? How could I let that happen ? Til this day I can't live that down because I'm constantly reminded of that and what a hero should never do. That's why I said that I'd vow to protect....even if I get hurt or even lose my life.

Y/n: Kirishima...I had no idea.

Kirishima: It's okay, Y/n, I wouldn't expect you to know that. The story is much deeper than that. When we were talking after the interaction between you and Bakugo, my memory brought me back to something.
