"I think perhaps I will always hold a candle for you – even until it burns my hand. And when the light has long since gone .... I will be there in the darkness holding what remains, quite simply because I cannot let go." Ranata Suzuki.

PROLOGUE
"Chiara," a raspy voice called to her as soon as she stepped foot inside the barren sterile hospital room.
"Yes father," she signs back to him. She walks up to the bed her father is resting upon and takes a seat beside him.
He looks around the room, scrutinizing every corner and nods towards the blinds as a signal for her to shut them closed. She gets out the chair, walks over to the windows, and carefully examines their surroundings to see if any potential threat was lurking around. When she is assured of their safety she proceeds to close the blinds. She moves back to her seat alongside her fathers bed.
"Come here," he said, extending a hand out towards her. She takes his hand in both of hers placing a small kiss on the back of his hand as a sign of respect and love. The hands that once held so much strength and power were now weakened feeble extensions of his body.
Her father lightly pulls on the mask that is covering her face. "I want you to bless me with your beautiful face in my last moments of death."
With a sigh she removes her mask allowing her father to gaze upon her face. The same face he had instructed her to keep hidden beneath a mask for over 15 years, for the sake of her safety of course.
His eyes slowly move around her face, taking in every single detail of it for what he knew would be the last time. Her cheekbones were more defined and her jawline had sharpened over the years.
She had rosy full bowed lips with a small straight nose. Her brown eyes glinted brilliantly in the bright light beneath her perfectly arched eyebrows.
To complete her look, her long shiny midnight black hair framed her face just like an exquisite painting.
"Now I want you to listen carefully to what I am about to say. There is a traitor among us. Someone in this family has betrayed us and is working against us. Someone has poisoned me, my child, and I want you to avenge my death."
"Poisoned?" she exclaimed in shock. "But father, the doctors said it is organ failure." Perhaps the medications he was on was making him delirious. He cannot possibly be poisoned.
"That is what I have instructed them to say, my little angel. Dr.Belluccini is the only one who knows what truly happened to me, he will inform you more about this later." By later he meant after his passing.
He was starting to cough again, talking was slowly becoming a much more difficult task for him. Chiara rubbed his shoulder and back to ease some of the pain.
"Father. Don't strain yourself too much."
"I am dying anyways, my child. It is important that I tell you this before it's too late." He coughs some more. "I suspect the same person who poisoned me is responsible for the stolen cargoes in America."
Chiara was subconsciously rubbing her fathers hand while remembering her father telling her about the stolen goods a few weeks ago.
"What they have done to me they can do to you my dear. If you feel that your life is at risk here, move to America. Seek out Gustavo, he will offer you protection and safety."
His coughing had intensified, and his breathing was becoming more laboured.
With the last bit of strength he had, he reached up to pull his daughters head towards himself. He kissed her lightly on her cheek.
"Standing true by your name, you have truly been the source of light in my darkness." His grip on her loosened but she could still hear him breathing.
His time has come.
"From dust we came and to dust we shall return. May your soul be granted a safe passage to the afterlife. May death give you eternal peace and may the Lord forgive you for your sins." The words whispered in his ear were barely audible but he heard them anyways. A lone tear escaped his eyes as he finally let go of his light and went to seek out his light in the afterlife.
His Sofia.

YAY NEW STORY!
So I tried to write another story previously but I found myself feeling uninspired very quickly. It was written within the popular romance, hot billionaire CEO theme but I found myself unable to find a concrete storyline that I was satisfied with as a writer and reader. So I did what I felt was right, scrapped the book.
I gave myself some time to rethink and to find out what kind of theme would come easy to me, and here we are. I personally enjoy reading something that isn't the typical roses and sunshine and I hope you'll enjoy it too!
Anyways, please feel free to vote and comment to let me know what you think.
xoxo
