 ~5 Months Before the Wedding~

“What about there?” Nathan asked, pointing to a picture of a resort in Singapore.

We sat in bed, looking up possible honeymoon destinations. Last month, I went with Nathan and boys while they were performing in Vegas. On his day off we snuck away from the group to the chapel we were first married in. It was really simple to get our marriage annulled there, signing a few papers, giving back the rings and tearing up the certificate. Within an hour we walked back out of the chapel, happily an engaged couple again and not a secretly married one.  I haven’t talked to Tom since he voiced his thoughts on the wedding. It wasn’t that I was avoiding him, I just didn’t feel as comfortable around him as I used to. Yes, my cousin’s opinion matters to me, but this is something I felt I was ready for. I love Nathan and I want to spend the rest of my life with him. I know I sound like a love-struck teenager, but I really do feel ready to marry Nathan,

“Babe, are you alright?” my fiancé asked, worry written across his expression.

“Fine” I shrugged with a smile.

He didn’t believe me. Of course he didn’t believe me. Nathan was one of the few men in the world that seemed to know when a girl says she’s fine in a certain tone, she’s really not. I didn’t feel I was ready to tell him about what Tom said, I don’t even think I’m supposed to even consider telling him. Nathan sat up from his laying position, pulling me to his side, my arm pressed into his bare chest,

“What’s bothering you, love?” he asked.

“I…” I sighed, shaking my head “I don’t know how to say it.”

“Tori, we’ll be married in five months…by now you should know you can tell me anything” he mumbled against my shoulder before kissing my collarbone.

I sighed, he was being so cute, which was making this so much harder.

“Promise you won’t get mad?” I wanted to confirm with him.

“Promise” he nodded, lifting my hand to his lips and kissing my fingertips.

So, with a shaky sigh, I told Nathan a detailed summary of Tom and mine’s conversation and how Tom thought we were making a mistake. I shut my laptop before continuing on to the bit where Tom started yelling. I pulled my knees to my chest with a shudder, remembering the rage in Tom’s eyes. I remembered how scared I was of my own cousin,

“This explains a lot” he nodded after I concluded.

“What do you mean?” I asked, twirling a strand of hair between my fingers, a nervous habit I was beginning to have.

“He’s been a bit cross with me lately, I didn’t know why, but after telling me this, it all makes perfect sense” he sighed, rubbing my back comfortingly.

I leaned into me, resting my head on his shoulder.

“I’m sorry” I mumbled.

“You have nothing to be sorry for” he mumbled before kissing the top of my head.

“It’s just… he’s always been there for me and I thought I could trust him with anything, then he tells me something like this…” I trailed off, unsure of how I felt.

“Are you considering what he said?” Nath asked me.

“No, no…of course not” I said quickly, maybe too quickly.

“I don’t want you to feel like we have to do this, love, if you want to hold this off for a while, we’ll do that” he reassured me “I’ve waited all my life to find you…I think I can handle waiting a bit longer.”

He’s so sweet. I looked down at our laced fingers and sighed with a small smile, running my free hand through my hair. He slipped his hand out of mine, wrapping it around my shoulders and using his other to comfortingly rub my thigh.

“I love you…always” he mumbled before gently kissing me.

“I love you too” I whispered, before laying my head on his shoulder.

It was quiet for only a few moments till he spoke again.

“We can make it through the stormy weather, we can go through it all together, do it all together, do it all” he sang quietly “I’ll be your strength” he finished, slightly riffing the last word.

I loved it when he sang, it was always so relaxing. It was so relaxing that I slept soundly in his arms without even realizing I’d fallen asleep…
