The stage lights shine in my eyes, the heat of it like lasers on my face. Luckily for me, I've practiced under these lights before, so I am able to keep my eyes from squinting as I stare out at the audience, reciting the soliloquy I've spent so long practicing.

The audience is a little odd.

It's full of headless bodies. They all sit up, dressed in their fancy clothes and evening gowns, able to move and walk despite the fact that their heads aren't there.

It makes me restless for some reason. I keep the ever growing fear from showing up on my face, though, and I do a damn good job of it too.

It's hard though, acting in front of a crowd of headless people. But despite the fact, I carry on the show as normal.

Until.

The crowd starts to murmur amongst themselves a little restlessly and at first I think it's my fault-maybe this is boring, maybe my acting isn't on point.

But then-

I feel him before I see him.

Cold tendrils of fear prickle my skin as Mr Top Hat Man nears behind me, drawing closer by every agonizing second.

I freeze under the spotlight, my lips failing to move, my body failing to turn.

He places something on my head.

It's light, made of thick material.

My hands slowly move to my head, touching the thing softly.

It's a hat.

A top hat.

I turn slowly, raising my eyes to his-he is well above me in height, his head almost bumping the rafters above.
