In the cellar, there was a box-sized room with a small mattress and blanket tucked in the corner. Also, a little drawer that was filled with a few worn-out clothing placed neatly within.

This was Ivory's room for the past 12 years of her life.

Ivory was frightened the electricity had turned off abruptly leaving her bedroom shrouded in darkness. She was terrified of the dark. She loathed how she would see silhouettes creeping in the shadows and monsters waiting to attack her. She could fathom that it was probably her overactive imagination playing tricks on her, regardless that did not stop her terror of the darkness. Of the unknown.

She couldn't help but hug Mr Prince her brown tattered teddy bear closer to her chest. Mr Prince was the only gift Ivory could remember being given by her Mama. She assumed it was probably because she was afraid of the dark and would scream when she was younger and her Mama, gave it in hopes she would shut up as her Mama loved to say.

She trembled in her tattered mattress placing her blankets over her head in hopes to hide away from the monsters residing in the dark.

She was perplexed because her Mama had forgotten to bring her dinner. This was the first time her Mama had missed giving her food for the whole day. Usually, she would skip breakfast and lunch but she always remembered to bring dinner to Ivory.

She could hear sounds of furniture being thrown and the sound of glass being broken upstairs. She couldn't seem to understand what was happening first Mama forgot about her dinner then the electricity went off and now it sounded like their house was being invaded by robbers.

Then the sound completely stopped and the house was enveloped in complete silence.

Ivory felt plagued by apprehension as if something terrible had just occurred.

She delved deeper under her blankets as she heard the noises of sirens blaring outside. The sounds of banging and footsteps from upstairs could be heard moving towards the cellar. For the first time, she was appreciative that the cellar was locked and she was protected from the outside world.

Nonetheless, Ivory held hope her Mama was okay too. Mama would be fine right? She has to be Ivory thought to herself, she was strong and could fight, unlike her.

The sound of footsteps could be heard outside her door now. She could hear the noises of people speaking. To her utter bewilderment, the door started being attacked by a huge force and Ivory could hear the doorknob shaking as a tremendous force was pushing against it.

She froze in her bed in the hopes that the person would not see her and leave. Instead, the opposite occurred the door crashed wide open and she could hear the footsteps entering her room.

"Is anybody in here? Come out now it's the police." So it was an unknown stranger in her house like she assumed originally. Ivory was still too afraid to move. Where was her Mama? And why would the police be in her house? Her Mama wasn't a criminal she had never done anything bad that she could think of.

The police officer started striding toward her mattress. "Jerry, have you found anybody else?" An unknown man said in a deep voice. It seemed like there were two strangers in her room to her absolute horror.

"Not yet Mark but I think there's somebody down here." As soon as he said that Ivory's blanket was ripped away from her, leaving her vulnerable to a stranger and a bright light shining in her eyes.

The torch the man was holding lit up her room freeing her from the monsters that haunted her in the dark. Now it was just the living monsters she was frightened of.

The men explained to her they were police officers and even though she didn't want to leave they told her she must accompany them to the police station.

But they didn't say anything about her Mama...

Ivory and Mr Prince were currently settled in the police station. She hadn't said a word since she met Mark and Jerry the police officers who entered her bedroom. They tried to be friendly and engage her in conversation but she just felt uncomfortable, because she had never spoken to strangers before. They gave up and left after leaving her some food to eat.

The room was ice cold and she shivered in her thin pyjamas. She was currently sat in a plain white room with a table and a few chairs surrounding it. On the table was a sandwich left by Jerry, however, Ivory was too troubled by her Mama to try to eat more than a few bites.

After what felt like hours to Ivory a woman with blonde curly hair and glasses entered the room. She was wearing a pretty floral dress and she settled into the chair next to Ivory.

"Hi, Ivory how are you, darling? I'm Sophie a social worker who helps kids like you." Ivory to Sophie's dismay did not utter a word in response.

Sophie carried on undeterred in her speech, "I'm sorry to inform you darling but your Mum, unfortunately, passed away today."

Ivory was astounded her Mama was dead. She couldn't believe her Mama left her alone in this world. She couldn't control the tears that started to slip out of her eyes.

What was going to happen to her now that Mama was gone?

Unfortunately for Ivory that wasn't the end of Sophie's speech. "I know you are upset sweetie but I have some good news for you. You have five older brothers in London and they have agreed to take you in."

Ivory dismissed everything else Sophie said after that. First, she found out her Mama was dead and now she found out she has five older brothers she never knew the existence of. Also, she will be living with them. She couldn't help the worry that encompassed her at that moment. Will her brothers love her or hate her as Mama did? Will they slap her as Mama did? Or will they be nice like Miss Parker her teacher?

Tears kept on falling out of her eyes and she had to contain herself from sobbing out loud. She used to be bored in her room in the cellar but now that she was free she couldn't help but wish she could go back and hide under her blankets once again...
