Chapter 9: Caution

Start from the beginning

And apparently Kaldur was too, seeing as he wasn't there.

Batman didn't speak and continued to wait for our late team leader.

Kaldur opened the door and stepped through, Max following behind him.

"Now that everyone is here, I want to-"

He didn't even comment on Kaldur being late! Does everyone have it out for me? And why was Max here? We're getting a mission, it's not like Batman would let her go too. Wait...

"Why is she here?" I asked Batman.

He glared and I shrank in my seat.

"If you had been paying attention, you would have heard that Max will be going with you on this mission. It's not reconnaissance (recon), unlike most of your missions, I need you to stop a drug deal." He said.

"Why can't the police handle it? It's just a drug deal." Artemis asked and received a glare in return.

"It's Count Vertigo's drug deal, usually this would be handled by Green Arrow, but it serves more than one purpose and he is more than fine with you taking over.

"When the mission is through I want you all to report to this building," he pointed to a red dot on his screen, "I'll send Robin the coordinates. There, you'll have your second mission. This is why Max will be with you. The purpose of your first mission, is not only to stop the drug deal but once you let Count Vertigo get away-"

"Get away!?" Robin, Artemis, and I, all sputtered.

"Yes. He needs to get away so that he is able to report to the Light that he saw Max. They will track you to the building, where you will all be waiting. I doubt that the Light will send that many villains after you, because they will want the job done quickly and the Light is usually spread out." Batman finished.

"Yes sir." Aqualad said and stood up, we all took this as our cue to leave.

I noticed Max stayed in a moment longer, but didn't take it into much account, until she showed up late to the bioship.

"What kept you?" I asked.

She pulled a knife out of her sleeve.

"There's your answer." Robin said.

She rolled her eyes and a seat was formed next to her. She sat down, immediately seat belts came up and wrapped around her. She gasped and jerked in them, they released her and she fell on the ground, staring at them, terrified.

"Woah! Calm down. It's just seatbelts." Robin said.

She glared at him, then the seats, the she stopped and just got on the seat. Though she noticeably tensed when the seatbelts went back on.

Connection established? Megan asked, through the newly created mind link.

Yes. Kaldur said.

Anyone know what that was about? Megan asked.

She probably just wasn't expecting the seatbelts to do that, it's not normal. Robin said.

Yeah, but none of you did that. She replied.

She has a point. I said.

She might have just had a bad experience, or perhaps she is nervous about the mission. Kaldur said.

She'll be fine.  Conner said.

We didn't talk after that.

Finally, we got to the building where th drug deal was supposed to go down, Megan landed the bioship on the roof and we all quietly snuck down.
