Chapter 14

I turn around to see the entire obsidian sky grid releasing hundreds of pieces of TNT. The ground is instantaneously cratering. I watch as our allies scramble to escape the blast radius. The only thing I could hear over the explosions was the cackle of delight from Technoblade. I whip around to see that there was now a crater separating us. 

"How could you do this?", I yell over to Technoblade. 

"Yeah, how could you do this to your friends?", Tommy yells. 

"You've never thought of me as a friend, Tommy, you've just used me from the start! You saw me just as 'The Blade'! That's all I ever was to you, 'The Blade', a weapon. Well, guess what! I'm choosing what I fight for now and I'm going to destroy the government, Tommy! You'll all die!", Technoblade declares.

"You're selfish!", Tommy yells. "You destroy what people love for your own self-gain!" 

"All these problems are because of your government!", Technoblade yells back. "Your government has caused all of these issues! I believe in freedom, Tommy." 

"You don't believe in freedom. When you were 'peer-pressured', that's not freedom, that's you following what the government told you to do", Tommy spat. 

"Remember when I was sitting there alone against the whole government, and you and Wilbur sat on the sidelines and watched? Did you step in? Were you guys the ones that stepped in that said don't worry Technoblade, we know you're in a high-pressure situation, but we'll fight the world for you, Technoblade. NO, you guys watched! You know what I did yesterday when you were surrounded by like 30 people, and the whole world was against you? I walked in. I was willing to fight all of them for you, Tommy. I would've been there. That is the difference between us", Technoblade shouts, his voice revealing the most emotion I've ever heard from him. 

"You were my friend and you betrayed us! This government didn't interfere with us, the discs did! The discs that Dream has! Why- why would you team up with that monster?", Tommy yells. 

"I tried Tommy, I tried to leave the government alone. I tried being peaceful, and you know what the government did? It sent a butcher army after me! The government made it clear we could not coexist". 

"You can't just blow up a government and expect all your problems to go away! Actions have consequences!" 

"You're right Tommy, actions do have consequences". With that, Technoblade releases a firework straight at Tommy. 

I'm watching it happen in slow-motion: the firework is being released from the crossbow... Tommy hasn't even noticed yet, he's still trying to yell at Technoblade... the TNT is raining down relentlessly... Tommy has noticed the firework and has stopped yelling at Technoblade, only to yell in fear instead... I'm lunging.......I'm- I'm looking at the sky? 

Everything around me has gone scary quiet. Glowing particles shimmer in my peripheral vision, but all I can focus on is the TNT raining down from the obsidian grid above me. I feel a tight grip on my shoulders- it draws me out of my trance. I turn my neck to see Tommy mortified as he kneels next to me. I watch as his face contorts into shock, fear, and sadness. His mouth is moving, but I can't hear anything. He's grabbing my hand now, and I watch as tears stream down his face. I try to speak, to tell him not to cry, but my body is disobeying me. In fact, I can't really feel anything at all. 

I focus back on Tommy, he's shaking my shoulders and making the most intense eye contact that I've ever experienced in my life. I don't look away, captivated by the intensity of the raw emotion coming off of Tommy. My ears are ringing now, and I can hear faint noises, but everything sounds so distant. I'm starting to make out what Tommy is yelling at me. 

"Don't look away... stay with me", he yells, his voice sounding very distant. I'm not looking away, I think, I'm looking right at you, Tommy. Why is he so upset? Tommy grabs my hand again. "Please don't leave me", he begs. 

I'm about to try and ask him why he was freaking out so much when Tommy's attention is taken away from me. He's now looking at something behind me. Hmm, I wonder what it is. I try to get my body to roll over, but I can't feel anything over the dull burning sensation coming from my chest. I watch as Tommy stands up. I can't hear what he's yelling at the person behind me, but it sure is upsetting Tommy. Tommy whips out his sword and is using it to defend me. I watch as Tommy makes a few threatening gestures with the sword, but then ultimately gets it knocked out of his hands. A swift kick sends Tommy flying off of the platform we were on into the rubble beneath us. Wait, Tommy can't leave, he was so upset about something. I need to be with him! I try and move, but my body is still unresponsive. 

What happened- why can't I move? Before I can try and remember, the ground beneath me disappears. What's happening? Am I flying? Oh wait, I think someone is picking me up. I try and fail to turn my neck to see who. I can see something in of the bottom of my peripheral vision being brought to my lips. A bottle. It's tilted so that the contents flow into my mouth. A warm sensation blooms across my chest- different from the dull burning one. Someone is whispering to me to close my eyes. Wait... are they whispering or is my hearing still messed up? My eyelids do feel very heavy.... I give into the commanding whispers and close my eyes, drifting off into sleep.
