One week later, I'm on duty as Sofia's maid of honor, helping her pick out china patterns for the reception.

"... These all look the same to me." I stare at all the options and then turn to Sofia.

"Really?" Sofia looks at me surprised. "But they're so different!"

I sigh, looking at the options in front of me again. I pick up the white teacups with a red flower pattern on it. "A traditional pattern for a traditional couple."

"It does have a classic elegance to it. Good choice." Sofia flags down a saleswoman to discuss the details, and I slump back in my chair.

My phone buzzes in my pocket, and I'm beyond relieved to see a notification from Ezra.

As if on cue, Sofia's raised voice breaks through my focus, and I look up.

"What do you mean, you don't have one hundred place settings of this pattern in stock? My wedding is in three days!"

I put my phone down for a second and take a deep, calming breath. Sofia is still arguing with the saleswoman, and it doesn't look like it'll be resolved anytime soon...

I wave at Sofia to catch her attention. "I have to take this phone call, do you mind...?"

She waves me off, "Do whatever. Can't you tell I'm in the middle of a negotiation? I need complete focus."

I slip into a private bathroom at the back of the store, making sure to lock the door behind me. I take a steadying breath, then reopen my conversation with Ezra.
