Okay. So I realize it might be confusing as to when are these things happening. So allow me to clarify:

Chap 11:Lied -> this is after a year an a half after Katie came back to home after her 1st visit to her town. Long after she met Mark. A recollection of memories.

Chap 12: Cry-> this is the next day after chap 11: Lied.

Chap 13:Breaking apart-> this is 2 months after 2nd visit to the home town. A year after she met Mark. And this chapter is on that very same day starting with Jessica's pov.

Jessica's pov:
Same afternoon:

After having completed a book, she laid straight and started thinking.

That was a good book. The protagonist was relatable, the situation was believable and the writing was very good! I like it. I should tell Kat to read this.

Kat...

She pulls out her phone and starts typing.

Jessica:
Hey

She waited for a reply but didn't get any. But that didn't worry her. It's not like either of them replied immediately. So she continued to slam her about the book.

Jessica:
Uk Jeffrey Archer rite?
U ve me read his books!!
They're awesome!!
I just completed another
Did u finish that one?
I said u like it

But ever after that, Katie didn't reply. She thought of the possibility of her sleeping but rejected that.

And given her mind...

No. She isn't sleeping.

Jessica:
Oi
Kat?
U there?
Hey!?

Something's not right.

She called Katie immediately. The phone rang but no one picked up. She called again but still no answer. She thought of calling her parents but she thought Katie won't like that approach. So she did what any friend would at a time like this.

"Mom! I'm going to Kat's. Okay?" she shouted as she approached the lady in her room.

"So suddenly? Is everything alright?" asked the lady, shifting attention from the television.

"Alls good. I just wanna." Jessica said casually, still at the door of the room. "cool?"

"Okay." The moment that word came out, she bolted to the door and out. She barely heard her mother shout after her "Don't be late!"

Jessica didn't wait for anything. Katie's house was about 10 minutes walk away. She ran like her life depended on it and reached in 5 minutes. Panting heavily, she rang the door bell. She wanted to ring it like mad man but restrainted herself.

"Jessica! What happened!? Are you okay? Come in." said Mrs. Brown when she saw the girl crouching down and panting.

"I'm fine, Aunty. Don't worry. I just ran here. I have to tell Kat something. In person. She's home right?" Jessica said, with I little calmer breathing.

"Okay.... Suger's in her room." Hearing that, Jessica started heading toward her room. "You guys want something to eat?"

"No. Thanks, aunty."

Jessica went in and closed the door behind her. But Katie was nowhere to be seen. Her phone was on her bed and sheets were still warm.

'At least she's at home', Jessica thought out loud.

She waited  to hear any sound from the joint bathroom but got nothing. It was too quite and still. An unease was filling Jessica since she didn't receive a reply for her texts. And now, it almost made her feel nauseated.

A fear for her mad friend.

She went on and knocked at the door. "You in there Kat?" she waited impatiently at the door.

"Answer me dammit! Are you in there?" she almost shouted.

"Kat! Dammit! I'll break it! Tell me you're okay!!" she yelled, banging the door now.

Please.... Answer me... Katie...

Don't be stupid... Please...

Kat...

She mind was racing to find ways to break the door. All the insane possible sights that might await her, starting to cloud her rationality. Blade... blood... motionless body... Empty bottles... Drugs... Mirror pieces... Foam coming from her mouth... The thoughts and images were all very vivid for the imaginative mind of Jessica. In fear, unknown to her, tears had started rolling down as she froze in front of the closed bathroom door.

When suddenly she heard a sound and ever so slowly the door was unlocked. Jessica snapped out of her daze as the door opened. Katie stood in front of her with her head down and quietly sniffing.

Thank God... She's alive...

She's not that stupid...

A relieved smile came on her face. She slowly went in and held Katie's hand tight. "Hey let's get you to bed okay?" Then she slowly took them to her bed. Katie simply followed. They got on and Jessica made Katie lay on her shoulder as she wrapped her arms around her. Covered with blanket, Jessica was almost afraid to talk. But she didn't have to.

"Why were you crying?" Katie managed to ask, in a course cracked voice.

What did you do....?

"'Cause so was my best friend." she said softly.

Silent tears rolled out of Katie's eyes again. She turned and buried herself in Jessica' s shoulder. Again, like earlier that day, she cried till it hurt. And Jessica, knowing the reason to the tears, could only slowly rub her back, while cursing herself for not coming earlier. Eventually Katie stopped and drifted to sleep.

Finally... She needs this sleep. I hope she doesn't wake up crying... Please God don't wake her up crying...

She pulled the curled body even closer and leaning on the wall behind her, she too fell asleep.

Later that evening, Jessica woke up to a vibrating phone in her pocket. Half heartedly she received it up, before it woke her still asleep best friend.

"Hello?"

"Are you still at Katie's house?"

"Hey Mom. Yeah I'm still here. Mind if I stay?"

"I'm fine with that but need to ask Jules."

"hmm"

"Is everything alright? You ran out so fast.."

"Yeah. It's all good now. I'll call you tomorrow okay?"

"oh- ah- Alright. Goodnight sweetie."

"G'night Mom."

She hung up just as quick as she received it. This conversation however had woken Katie and she was sitting up now.

"You staying?" Katie mumbled, rubbing her eyes.

"Someone has to make sure you actually sleep." Jessica said, looking at her.

"It's not like I can't..."

"I know." She wanted to ask about that afternoon. She wanted to know what was going on in her head but she decided against it. 'It's not the time' she thought to herself. And Katie was grateful for that.

"You wanna watch something?" Katie said, trying to lighten the room.

"Sure. You choose. I'll go talk to Aunty and get some food." she said, getting out of bed and out the room.

After a while, Jessica came back with food and permission to stay and Katie had made her bed for them. They curled in and watched the movie, trying to forget the pain of the afternoon.
