Once I get in the water and swim next to Dream, he takes my hand and tells me to hold my breath. With that he dips back under and lightly tugs my arm, pulling me with him. I hold my breath, swimming a short distance with him until I feel him squeeze my hand and pull up. I break the surface of the water to see that we were in an underwater cave.
Dream lets go of my hand and makes his way to the wall of the cave and starts climbing up the rocks, slipping up and out of view. I follow him, carefully navigating the stone, to quickly find a small exit. Once I crawl through the opening in the rocks, I look back and laugh.
"That's one way to make an exit".
I turn around to see Dream waiting. "Ready?", he asks me.
"Yeah"
Dream starts walking and I follow him silently. Millions of thoughts are surging through my mind.
Am I... is he... what happened to me?
I realize I'd been falling behind when I look up to see Dream waiting for me.
"Sorry", I mumble as I jog to catch up with him.
He says nothing, so we continue again in silence. We eventually reach a beach. Dream walks up to the shore and produces a small wooden boat that could hold the two of us. But... where did the boat come from? Maybe I was too busy being lost in my thoughts to have noticed it.
Dream gets in the boat and looks back- probably studying me from behind the unrevealing mask.
"Hop in", he says.
I carefully climb in and Dream takes off rowing. We fly across the water, yet Dream doesn't even appear fazed by feat. I stare silently at Dream's back, diving back into my thoughts.
How did I get here... why am I here... what did I do... what is happening?
I suddenly become aware of how cold it was getting. I shiver and look up to see we were now in icy waters. Before I could process what was happening, Dream had stopped the boat and was glancing back at me.
"You ok?", he asks.
"Yeah", I start. "Wait- actually I have a question. How far did we just travel to reach icy waters?"
Dream turns to face me.
"What do you mean", he asks confusedly.
"Oh... I'm sorry, I zoned out", I muttered, "I didn't realize how far we had traveled... sorry".
Dream nods silently as he turns back to continue rowing, making me feel embarrassed about my dumb question.
-----
We reach a snowy shore, and Dream hops out of the boat and offers me a hand. I take it and climb out. We leave the boat on the shore as we walked into the snowy terrain. After a few minutes of silence, I look towards Dream.
"So", I start, "is Dream a nickname?"
Dream glances over to see me looking at him. He looks back to the horizon,
"Yes"
"Why did you get it", I continue.
He looks back over at me. "We can talk more about me later. What about you", he asks, "what's your name?"
"I'm y/n", I respond with a small smile.
Dream continues to look at me for a moment longer before breaking eye contact and looking back towards the horizon. I didn't feel like breaking the silence anymore.
We walk for a few more minutes when a wooden cabin comes into view.
"Is that your home?"
"It's a temporary one, but it is a safe place where we can... talk"
We get inside and I immediately notice the walls of chests. I turn to Dream,
"You got a lot of stuff?", I ask.
He smirks, "yeah, something like that".
-----
Dream offers me a seat at his table. I sit down and watch as he pulls up a seat for himself across the table.
"So, y/n", Dream says almost like he's testing my name. "I hear you have a nice story to tell me."
"Well the part of the story including me is very short", I begin.
"Is that so", Dream questions.
"Yes, as far as I know, I just magically appeared here at the start of the day. I have no memory of getting to this place", I say to Dream's unrevealing mask.
Dream cocks his head, "I thought you said this was a long story."
"Um... well the next bit is very strange and I'm embarrassed to even say it".
Dream leans in, "I'm listening".
"What if I told you that I know you", I start carefully.
"Well, do you?"
"I know your real name is Clay."
"Hmm, what else", Dream prompts.
I pause unsure, but decide to continue anyway. "I know your 6'3'' and you supposedly have green eyes under that mask of yours."
"Those are both just physical traits", Dream points out.
"Have the things I've been saying so far been true?"
"Yes", Dream quietly admits.
"Oh my gosh", I breathe.
"How", Dream questions, "how do you know this, who told you?"
"You did", I say quietly.
"What?"
"You told me", I say louder.
"But I've never met you before today", Dream responds bewildered.
"Dream, until today, your life has been part of a roleplay in Minecraft that I've watched, but somehow I think I'm in it now", I exclaim.
Dream freezes. I watch as he raises a shaky hand and lifts the mask up his face. I now stare into confused green eyes.
"What did you just say?", Dream asks.
