Swiftkill watched her pack as they wondered through the trees and bushes. She looked at the mothers and their cubs, the young males who had grown up in the group and the old ones who had seen so much more than her. She thought about her own unborn cubs and how they would be part of this huge family that she had bought together. And she thought of Troy and how they had changed each other's life.

Suddenly there was a crack on the forest floor ahead. Swiftkill froze. She sniffed the air and gave a wide eyed look to the other wolves. BEAR! The rustling sound came closer and Swiftkill prepared to attack. She lowered her back legs and crouched back, ready to pounce. The rest of the scouting pack followed her moves while the mothers stood between the bear and their cubs protecting them.
