Exhausted the wolf pack reached the forest. Swiftkill and two of the younger males went hunting. They knew the group needed food as well as rest to make them stronger. They were lucky and caught a large deer and several rabbits that they dragged back to the pack. Swiftkill sat alone under a large pine tree. The thick foliage sheltering her from the rain. But she couldn't sleep or eat. She was feeling quite sick again and the tiredness enveloped her. The image of Troy disappearing couldn't leave her mind. "You need to eat" a mother wolf encouraged "he would have wanted you to stay strong and you need to stay strong not just for yourself" Swiftkill looked up at her inquisitively. "You mean I need to stay strong for the pack, I know" she replied to the mother "Not just the pack, Swiftkill, you need to keep yourself well" stated the wolf "You're going to be a mother too". Swiftkill gazed at her and realised the enormity of her statement. Swiftkill a mother? But how, when. It was then she realised that it was when she and Troy first meet they had been more than friends and as she took on the responsibility of the pack, Troy had always been there to protect her, but now without him, how would she cope. Swiftkill lay thinking well into the night.
