Without warning the river suddenly got stronger. Troy had managed to get ashore first. He dropped the cub and jumped back into the river to help the weaker wolves and cubs. The young males had started passing them in the panic and then their was a sudden crash. Upstream a tree cracked and fell into the river. It was head straight for the pack. "SWIM, SWIM FOR YOUR LIVES" screamed Swiftkill to the group. She turned as Troy passed her to help the others. The young males had reached the bank and were helping each other out of the water. The tree was getting closer and closer. "Help the mother, I'll get the cubs" shouted Swiftkill to Troy. They swam faster towards the remaining wolves. Swiftkill took the cubs and turned back towards the bank, she swam faster, the water constantly pushing against her body. Troy swam behind the mothers, pushing them forward with his head. Then the tree struck. It caught one of the mothers and she went under the water. Troy dived down under the water. He swam against the rapids and grabbed at the mother. Swiftkill reaching the bank helped the final few from the water. She turned to see the tree rush pass. In front of it rose up the mother and two of the young males jumped back into the water to help rescue her. Behind the mother Troy's head rose above the water. He gave the mother a final push towards the bank as the trunk of the tree hit him and he disappeared again under the water. This time he didn't rise back up. Swiftkill howled in horror as the tree floated on and took Troy with it. He was gone.
