Ever since Nini and Ricky met on the first day of kindergarten they have been best friends. And being best friends worked for years but now it just doesn't feel like an accurate way to describe their relationship.
Nini realized how little their relationship resembled a friendship, cause she knew friends don't look at friends the way her and Ricky looked at each other. But she never brought it up. She was scared that maybe Ricky didn't like her the way she liked him and that she was just reading into things too much.
Ricky was just a clueless teenage boy. He knew he felt something for Nini but he never knew how to describe it, because he had never felt this feeling before, and it was scary.
They sat at the same lunch table, but on opposite sides of the table, both wanting to sit by their other friends. But that doesn't stop them from stealing glances at each other, and occasionally catching the other one looking at them.
The theater gang had a monthly movie night at Ashlyn's house.
Ricky and Nini always sit next to each other and by the time they are halfway done with the movie they usually find themselves in a cuddling position.
One day Nini was resting in between Ricky's legs, with her back against his chest. This was her favorite one of their cuddling positions because she was close to him.
They were watching one of her favorite movies and Ricky had never seen it before so Nini kept looking up at him to see his reactions.
One time when she looked up to see how he reacted to something, but he wasn't looking at the movie. He was looking at her.
As their eyes met Nini swore she saw a sparkle in his eye. They didn't break eye contact. It had probably only been about 30 seconds, but to them it felt like a few hours had passed, as if time stopped and they got lost in each other's eyes.
Nini started leaning in and Ricky started leaning down, this was it the was the moment Nini had been dreaming about for years, they were finally going to kiss.
But of course just as they were about to kiss, Nini's phone rang. "You should probably answer that," Ricky said, pulling away, suddenly very aware of the fact that all of their friends were in the room.
Nini grabbed her phone and walked out of the room to answer her phone. It was her moms, they had called to let her know that they wanted her to come home.
That night Nini couldn't sleep. She couldn't stop thinking about her and Ricky's moment. He almost kissed her in the dark. That must mean he likes her. Right?
Nini was fed up with everything that was going on with Ricky, so she did the only thing she could think of to get her emotions out of her head. She wrote a song.
After she wrote it she knew she couldn't just leave it there, he needed to know the way he was making her feel. So she posted it on youtube, the only problem was youtube is a public platform and a lot more people than just Ricky heard the song.

Nini had been ignoring Ricky ever since she posted that song. He tried to text her, she left him on read. He tried calling her, but she declined every single one of his calls. He didn't know what to do next.
Nini was home alone one day when she heard a knock at the door. She had ordered a package a few days ago and was expecting it to come that day, so she opened the door without checking who it was first. That was a mistake. It wasn't a delivery man, it was Ricky.
"Why have you been ignoring me" he asked as she opened the door. "I've been trying to contact you for a week and no reply, what's going on."
"My song," Nini whispered. "Oh that. Can I come in so we can talk about it" he asked and she let him in, not knowing how to get out of having to talk to him.
They sat silently in the living room for about five minutes both not knowing how to start the conversation that they really need to have.
"You were right," he said breaking the silence. "About what" she questioned.
"We don't act like we're friends Nini, and if I'm being honest I don't want to be just friends anymore, I want to be with you. I don't want to just steal glances across the room, I don't want almost kisses in the dark, I want us to be a thing. I want everyone to know how much I care about you and how amazing you truly are. I want to be the one that causes your heart melting smiles to form on your face. I want to be yours, Nini."
Nini walked over to him and kissed him. She had been waiting for this moment for the longest time, but it was somehow better than she ever thought kissing Ricky would be.
"I want to be yours too Ricky"
