MY LOVE

Chapter one

3 years later
Sierras POV

I walked out of my last day of clinicals for the summer. Being in nursing school also meant sacrificing precious time for lab and clinical work, however I knew what I was getting myslef into. Regardless of it being eight p.m in the evening, the sun was shining and beating heavily down on me. A good way to start summer. I couldn't wait to go home and take a shower. I got into my car and immediately called Veronica.

She answered on the first ring. "You're done?" she asked

"yeah I'll be home in a bit but I'm heading to walmart for a few things first. Ask the guys if they want anything" I said. I wore black sunglasses, rolled down the windows. and blasted Chase Atlantic. As veronica shouted at Justin and Josh through the phone I pulled out of the carpark and made my way to walmart. 

"They said to buy snacks for a movie tonight" Veronica responded after a few minutes. Over the past couple of months we had been watching movies every other day. Well they had been watching every other day. I was too busy studying and doing work placement. It was certainly hard getting a moment for myself and I've learnt the hard way that slacking off would heavily impact on my grades. My plan this summer was to relax and not think about college too much.

 I parked at walmart and within 15 minutes I was already heading home. Veronica, Josh, Mia and I all shared a condo. It was located in the heart of the Upper East Side in New York. I admit sharing an aparatment was one of the best decisions of my life. It never got lonely and our condo was only a couple of minutes from college which made it more practical.

"I'm back!" I called out. I dropped my keys in the bowl before shutting the door behind me. Almost instantly Justin and Josh ran out of the kitchen and grabbed the bags filled with snacks and then ran back. "Geez hi to you too" I mumbled, rolling my eyes. I walked into the living room heaving a sigh and flopped down on the couch.

"Long day?" Mia asked. She was sitting cross-legged on the arm chair across from me. 

"mhmmmm" I groaned

"You should change out of your uniform and then come back down. The movie will relax you" Veronica suggested from beside me. She was painting her nails a bright yellow. I instantly agreed. I got up and walked down the hall and into my bedroom. My room was way more spacious than it was back home in New Jersey. I removed my scrubs and threw on a pair of white shorts and a grey t-shirt. Summer in New York always left you sweating during the night. I took out my contacts and wore my glasses before heading back into the living room. The once dim lit room was now pitch black with only the tv as our source of light. I sat down on one of chairs next to the window. Veronica and Josh were cuddled up on the far side of the couch. Veronica had her head in Josh's lap as he soothingly played with her. Justin and Mia laying down with a blanket covering them.

Being the only single person in the condo defintely had its disadvantages. Just watching them made me think back to him.

*flashback*

"I dont know Veronica. I never hear from him anymore and when I do it only lasts about ten minutes" I sighed

"Have you talked to him about it?" she asked

"thats the thing V, he doesnt answer my calls or call me back and even when he does its when im busy" There was no denying that ever since Aaron moved to Canada our relationship had been sinking more and more as the days went past.

"What are you gonna do?" she questioned again. I ran a hand through my brown hair and closed my eyes, letting out a shaky breath. I opened my eyes and looked at veronica who now had a worried expression on her face. I looked down at my phone and stared at it for a moment. I picked up my phone and dialed his number. "Sierra, what are you doing?" I didn't answer her.  I expected him to decline the call just like every other time but was shocked when I heard his voice on the fourth ring.

"Hey babe. You actually caught me at good time. I just finished hockey practice"  my eyes immediately watered when I heard his voice. Not because I havent heard his voice in over a week but because I knew what was coming next. "babe?  Are you there?" he asked.

I aggresively wiped a lone tear that fell down my face and swallowed. "sierra" Veronica whispeared  but I ignored her again.

"We need to talk" I said firmly. There was pause before he spoke

"I-"

I cut him off before he could talk anymore. "This isnt working anymore Aaron, We arent working anymore" I emphasised . Veronica's eyes widened once she realised what was happening.

"What do you mean? If this about us not talking for a week I promise i'll make it up to you" he reassured

"That is exactly what I mean Aaron" I snapped. "We are living different lives now. You're busy doing your own thing and so am I. We can't keep lying to ourselves anymore. We will only end up hurting each other more and cause damage" I gritted out. I wanted a hole to swallow me there and then

"You promised that we would make this work Sierra"  he started

"Yeah well...I guess we shouldn't make promises we can't keep" I muttered

"We just need to talk this through and work out a better way for us to communicate" he rushed out.

"NO!" I Shouted. Even Veronica jumped back slightly. "Don't you get it?" I whispeared  "There's nothing left for us Aaron. I'm sorry but I can't keep doing this anymore"  I was on the verge of tears.

For a moment he didnt speak. I was almost certain he hung up. "Is that what you want? You want us to breakup?" he asked. There was a hint of hostility in his voice.

My bottom lip quivered. I balled my hand into a fist. "Yes" my voice was barely audible

"I'm not going to fight with you because we are adults now. This is your choice not mine but I want you to know...you made a huge mistake. Goodbye Sierra" and then he ended the call.

*flashback ended*

I sighed as my eyes drifted back to the TV which had Divergent playing. Breaking up with Aaron after three months of being college was a lot harder than I expected. I was behind in lectures and it took me months to finally restablise myself. Although I cut ties with Aaron that didnt mean everyone else did. Occasionally I would hear them on the phone with him or randomly hear his name being mentioned in coversations.

"Are you alright hun?"Mia asked as she turned to face me. "you look a little...lost"

The other three turned to look at me. "yeah i'm just really tired, I think I'm going to go to bed early" I said and fake yawned. I made my way to my room and laid down. As from tomorrow I need to stop caring about my past and just enjoy my summer.
