Acceptance or Rejection

A week went by and the purple bruise on Colby's face was starting to fade, the wound no longer hurting as much as it did.

Things have been weird lately, Colby noted. He hasn't been seeing his friends around as often including Brennen. It made him sad but he understood that they had things to do and he didn't want to get in the way of their success.

Colby was at school and no sign of Brennen. He saw Tara earlier, hoping to sit with her but she told him that she was meeting Jake outside. He was feeling bummed until he ran into Nate----someone he's been running into quite often.

Nate offered to eat with him and Colby gladly accepted, calming down and happy to have some company with him. The two have been hanging out a bit more that week which was nice. He was really getting to know him, happy to have a new friend.

The two sat comfortably in the music room, surrounded by a few instruments and sound proofed walls. It was quiet and empty----away from the craziness inside the cafeteria. It was comforting.

"Hey, forgot to ask earlier....how's your bruise? It seems to be getting better," said Nate.

"Yeah, doesn't hurt as much anymore. I hate that it's turning into this gross yellow colour though. I'm hoping it wears off," he explained.

Nate nodded, taking a sip from his soda. Things were easy between them. Colby found that he was able to talk with him about anything, the conversation never weird or awkward. He was a nice guy to be around.

It was nice to know that Colby had a new friend----someone who was always there when there was trouble. He's been getting to know him quite well. Colby found out that he was really into music, hoping to one day have a career as a musician. It was a nice dream.

He hasn't heard any of Nate's singing yet but he figures that he's good, hoping that he'll be able to achieve this dream.

"Oh, you find out if ya got in?"

"What? Into uni?"

"Yeah. You got the letter last week. Never told me if it was good or bad," he said.

"I, uh, actually haven't opened it yet."

"Oh why not? Scared? 'Cause that's reasonable but you gotta give em an answer soon, I think."

"I was supposed to tell Brennen so we could open it together but I never got round to telling him," explained Colby.

Nate nodded, understanding. Colby turned to face him, admiring his blond hair. "What about you? Apply to any schools?"

"Yeah I applied. I got accepted into a few schools I don't really wanna go, but I might for the music program. My friend said it's a waste of time though," he said.

"What is? School?"

"No, the music program. He said it was useless and stupid but I dunno....it might be good."

"I think it's good. You'll probably learn a lot and maybe make new connections. I don't know, I'd go for it."

Nate nodded, smiling at the idea. "It'd be nice."

As it turns out, Billy is awful at communication. It makes sense given he's never committed and never had an actual relationship with someone but it was something he needed to improve.

These past days he and Corey have been making out, never going any further than that but it felt like it was starting to. The two had no idea what their relationship was and what they were doing but it was confusing.
