(October 1st 1991, Hogwarts Library)

"You look stressed, what's wrong?" Tracey inquired dropping a book down on the table before taking a seat

"Nothing." Pansy replied with a sigh trying to focus on doing her assignment

"Is it the assignment? I could help if you want." Tracey taking a peek over the table at the parchment "Unless it's a potions assignment that is." She added trying to lighten the mood

Pansy let out a small smile "No, it's not the assignment."

"So what is it then?" Tracey asked her brow quirked "If you tell me maybe I can help you."

Pansy shook her head "This is something I have to do myself."

"Is it to do with the task our handsome King gave you?" Tracey asked earning a nod from her "I see."

"Well, it may be your job, but that doesn't mean you can't have help or be given advice." Tracey spoke "So, if you need advice or want to talk about it...." She prompted

Pansy sighed again for what felt like the hundredth time that day, she gave the immediate area a glance around to see if anyone was nearby before relenting to her friends prompts.

"It's just that..." Pansy hesitated momentarily "I'm just struggling to make connections with the upper years."

"It was easy at first." She explained, "I started with our year as I knew most of them from Ministry events and family balls, I knew who I could trust and who could be useful."

"But with the upper years...  I don't really know many of them and the ones I do know, I don't know if I can trust them." Pansy added

"But that's a good start isn't it?" Tracey smiled "I don't think Corvus expects you to have ears in every year and house so quickly, besides you do realise why he picked you, right?" Tracey asked with a smirk causing Pansy to shake her head

"Because you're a gossip." Tracey smirked "Out of all of us, it's you that hears all the rumours first. And that's what he wants right? To hear all the rumours first. He doesn't need a sophisticated information network, at least not right now. He only needs one that works."

"Now, about the muggleborns. I'm assuming you haven't talked to any of them?" Tracey asked

"No, I've mostly stuck to purebloods and halfbloods, most of them being Slytherin." Pansy explained

"I know some halfbloods from the other houses you should be able to trust." Tracey said "And the first year muggleborns will be naïve having only just entered our world, it should be easy to earn their trust. But just because you don't trust someone doesn't mean you can't use them, you could always get the ones you trust to get info out of those you don't."

The two continued to talk, with Tracey giving her some names of people she should talk to before they were rudely interrupted.

"Well well well, if it isn't Black's little friends." Travers taunted "And from what I've just overheard, you are conspiring against the court."
