MAYA'S POV

Patrick looked around, his face scrunching up in confusion. "Where'd Rihanna go?" he asked, his voice becoming slightly lost underneath the music and everyone talking.

I shrugged, "home probably."

"And you didn't go home with her?" he questioned skeptically.

"Noooo," I laughed. "Why would I do that? I'm having fun with you."

He looked at me suspiciously, taking a sip from his red solo cup. "You're usually so far up her ass. What happened?"

I snorted. "Well if you really wanna know, we broke up."

He was quiet for a second before he realized I was telling the truth. "And you're not trying to work shit out? Why?"

"She wanted space," I said simply. "So I'm giving her all the space she needs and-"

He cut me off. "You know I love you right?"

"Yeah, of course."

"Then understand that I still love you when I say you're acting dumb. Go fix shit with your girl."

I frowned, fully prepared to argue my point to Tru. He didn't understand what was going on—he couldn't understand what was going on between us.

Tru gave me a pointed look when I didn't move. "Call an uber and take your ass home. Now."

I fought the urge to say anything else and pulled out my phone to order an uber. As soon as I stood up, I felt a pair of eyes fall on me. I knew exactly who they belonged to just by the way I felt hot under their gaze.

I turned to face her, shooting her a sheepish smile. She cocked her head, getting up and approaching me, a disappointed look on her face. "You're leaving?"

"Yeah, I have to go fix something."

"Well let me walk you out."

I agreed easily, letting her guide the both of us out of the room and down the hall. We walked quietly for the most part. It wasn't until we got to the door that she broke the silence. "So is there trouble in paradise?" she asked tentatively, gazing at me as we pushed through the door.

"I guess you could say that. I broke up with her, but I might have jumped the gun."

"Oh."

"Yeah," I said awkwardly before I took out my phone to put some tension between us at ease. My uber was still two minutes away.

"So that means you're temporarily single then?"

I chuckled nervously, wishing I could put a physical barrier between us. I could see where this conversation was going and I didn't want to be present. "I mean I guess, but-"

"Then act like it Maya. I miss you. I miss us. You left without saying anything to me."

"Yeah I know...but-"

"It always made me wonder what I did wrong, but I saw her, and I realized you just didn't wanna be with me."

I shook my head. "Destiny that's not true. I'm so sorry for ghosting you. I thought we'd be something more, I really did, but Robyn came along and everything changed for me. I just didn't have the heart to tell you because I liked you."

Her lip quivered, my admission doing nothing but upsetting her more. "Your ride's here..."

I glanced behind me, turning back to destiny. I grabbed her hands rubbing the back of them soothingly with the pad of my thumbs. "I should've told you," I repeated. "I cared about— I still care about you, but we can't be together."

She nodded in defeat, blowing out a deep breath. "Yeah, I know. I love you, alright."

I shot her a smile and leaned forward planting a lingering kiss on her cheek before I let her hands fall back to her sides and left her.
